How would you spell this?

I'm pretty sure we've decided to go with the name Lachlan. I sent my mom a fb message with the name and she called me right away asking how to say it since it was spelled so weird! Really?? I thought it was pretty straight forward! I want it to sound like Lock-lan. So how would you spell it so people don't call him the wrong name his whole life? Lochlan, Locklan, Lachlan??? I've seen a number of variations. I personally prefer Lachlan! But would people call him Lack-lan?

I would pronounce that lahk-lan not lack-lan, but I have Irish ancestry and it looks Irish? But if you want it pronounce loch-lan then I would spell it Lochlan.

This site shows that spelling Lachlan is pronounce lah k - l uh n

That was our first choice, but we recently picked a different name. We were going to change the spelling to Lochlyn for a girl and Lochlan for a boy. It's a pretty easy name to play around with spelling

You have spelled it right, the only other Lachlan I have heard of is the actor~Lachlan Murdoch.

I think it's spelled right. I think it's just one of those intimidating ones for some people since it's not super common.

Re: How would you spell this?

Looks like Lock-lan to me! It's a great name, and it seems a shame to change the traditional spelling. If you think it'll be an issue, though, I have seen "Lochlan" and it might be a little more fool-proof. (My little boy will be Augustine, and I'm realizing I will forever be saying "It's uh-GUS-tin, not AH-gus-TEEN!")

DDC.

I'm an Aussie and it's been a big name over there since I was a kid (and was my top choice for DS1, but DH vetoed it), so take this with a grain of salt, but I'd spell it Lachlan for sure.

Re: How would you spell this?

My hubby's middle name is Lochlan. I think Lachlan is a good spelling but I'd also be concerned that people will pronounce it Lack-lan. Fool proof is Lochlan.

Our baby's name will be Esmé and we run the risk of people pronouncing it Es-ME when it's Es-MAE. We will just go with it because that''s how we like the spelling and hopefully ppl will catch on and use the accent as it's supposed to be used. I've learned how to make the accent on any computer keyboard now...i love google

Re: How would you spell this?

DDC here too-

Interesting because the only time I ever heard this name was a women on here who was in my DDC, and I never was sure how it was said, and I always said it (in my head) "Lake-lan." I don't know why, because that doesn't even make sense with the spelling, but I thought she made it up, and it sounded the most like a name to me (because I know a little boy named Layclan, pronounces Lakelan).

I think if it was spelled with an "o" people would definitely get it much easier, but maybe it's getting more popular so people will know?
