A baby and a NICU stay
Well he is here! After only 5 hours of intense labor (thanks to a stupid cervical lip!) and about 5 mins of pushing Jonah David was born at 10:18 pm weighing 8.8 and 20.25 inches Wednesday the 28th. Full head of hair and nursing champion!
Now the bad part....he came (I pushed him out) too fast so he didn't get a good squeeze on the lungs. So he has some fluid causing him to breathe too fast. So he was admitted last night to NICU after being observed at about 6 hours old. Everything else is perfect, he hasn't needed oxygen, or a vent, or anything. So he is on antibiotics because his white blood count started to go up a little. Hopefully tomorrows wbc will be better and we will be discharged Monday morning. If not, it will more than likely be Friday. I am just heartbroken and cry when no one is looking. But he is healthy in every other way. So this is just a little hiccup we have to get past. Big brother came to visit and did so well! I was terrified all the machines would upset him but he fabulously. Will try and keep you all updated!

Hooray for his arrival, but I'm sorry to hear about his NICU stay. I hope that he clears the fluid quickly and is back in your arms in no time.

NICU is rough, but it's better to be safe. Congratulations!

Congrats on your baby!! Same thing happened with my little girl and we had to transfer in from a home birth. It was the same thing with the fluid. We were in for 4 days, only 2 in NICU but 2 more in "observation", she was the same story not even getting any treatment in the NICU just hooked up to lots of monitors and they gave her IV antibiotics too (in case of infection) which she didn't have.

Congratulations!
I'm sorry about the NICU stay. Our six days there were the most stressful and weepy days I've ever had in my life.

Re: A baby and a NICU stay
Congrats! Sorry about the NICU stay; my mom said that the same thing happened with my brother, but he was a 37 weeker. Micah inhaled a lot of the mucous plug and that caused some issues at the beginning; it's hard to imagine that a fast labor could cause complications!
It might be a good idea for you to take some therapeutic-grade antibiotics; they'll pass through to the milk and should help to counter the antibiotics so that you don't have to worry about thrush or tummy issues for him.

Re: A baby and a NICU stay
Congrats Abby!!!! I'm so thrilled for you. I LOVE the name Jonah.
Sounds like a great birth. . .so sorry about the NICU. That's so hard (you know I know all about extra complications at birth), but I'm sure he will recover quick and you'll be home with your beautiful squishy in no time! Enjoy your baby moon and I can't wait to see pics! (kinda hard to believe we both have our babies now isn't it)
