I'm so glad I'm only going to the ob once!

Today has made me so greatful for my midwife!

She wanted me to see an ob incase of a transfer. I'm only going once and its just to get in the system. I called today and the lady on the phone was asking me the basic questions. She asked my martial status which is single since we aren't married and myinsurance info(which is state for just incase, I'm paying out of pocket for my midwife) and then she says oh ok so no employment info...what's your home address?! I was a little shocked. I started laughing and asked her why she would assume o.was unemployed. Her response was.. silence. After a few seconds I told her she should never assume someone is unemployed because they're pregnant, single and have state medical. I was pretty offended.

So they had to have someone callback since I'm 29 weeks. The lady calls and can't find an appointment. So she says I'll call you back again. Seriously? I really don't want to go and they're making it so difficult. She calls me back and says she has an appointment next week. Ok great...but I have to be seen by an intake nurse first. So total time is 1.5 hours for this appointment! I'm not excited at all.

I can only imagine how fun it will be talking to the Dr about having a vba2c. I'm not even mentioning home birth. Did I mention I don't want to go? Luckily its only one time!

Thanks! I love walking into my midwifes office and seeing her at the desk! It's a small office. I'll never go back!

My Mood:
I have very similar feelings on OBs. I had one with my DS and always felt like just another number in the system, taking up his valuable time. With my midwives, I feel like a valued client who actually has a brain and is capable of making informed decisions.

Re: I'm so glad I'm only going to the ob once!

I would LOVE to have midwife/home birth care, but I do have one of those rare, wonderful OBs. She still doesn't have a ton of time at each appointment, but if i have something to talk about, we talk about it. She's great. Having had two home births herself, she knows what birth is supposed to be about and works very hard to bring it to the OB world.

I would watch what you say there. I have known of OB's calling CPS because of women not getting prenatal care and you are 29 weeks along. That and the fact you thought they were judgey about single and state aid.

Well they can call cps. I have been getting prenatal care. I just refused to tell them who I've been seeing.

Coming back to edit...I wasn't trying to be snarky. Just saying since I have been getting care I have nothing to worth about.

If I found a great ob I wouldn't be against seeing them. That's amazing she's had two home births. Very rare!

Can you find a different OB? I love mine and they are welcoming of everyone!
