Talk to me about baby gates for the stairs!
We need baby gates for the top and bottom of our stairs.
I also want to get some sort of gate play pen for the dog, I wanted something that would be stable that could also just be used straight to give him more room but the one on amazon is a bit more than I was hoping to spend, the play pen gates seem kind of small. Also whats your favorite general baby gate for door ways? But the priority would be the baby gates for the stairs. There are so many choices on amazon I have no idea what to get!

Re: Talk to me about baby gates for the stairs!
Hands down, Summer Infant walk-through gate for non-stairways. So convenient, and sturdy too.
For top of stairs, go with Kidco. They're very sturdy, well made (withstand a LOT of messing around by my kids), great customer service (will send replacement parts free if you ask nicely), and very hard for kids to open.

Evenflo from Walmart.
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Evenflo-Se..._fb_revshr_001 This one! We have it in our kitchen to basement and it works really well. We have some of the pressure mounted too.

Re: Talk to me about baby gates for the stairs!
For the stairs, you want a gate that can be screwed into the wall. We had this Kidco gate for the top of the basement stairs and the bottom of our main staircase and it was awesome. For the top of our main stairs, we first tried the kidco gate. We loved the gate, but the way our upstairs is configured, it would block the entrance to a room and be very inconvenient if left open, so we purchased a retractable gate similar to this one. It wasn't my favorite and it took 2 hands to open, but it was very sturdy and did the job without blocking any doorways.

We only have one on the bottom of the stairs - its an Evenflo net gate - not screwed in - just tension. We needed a big gate and this one adjusts to 6ft. Works great and she's a climber
she's lately taken to balancing on top of it and it holds her 28lb self just fine. When we switch her to a toddler bed, I'll put a gate at the top to keep her upstairs at night and it'll be a screw-in. But so far, I haven't needed one at the top - she's never just alone up there.

Re: Talk to me about baby gates for the stairs!
We have a wooden evenflo gate that is attached to the wall at the top of the stairs. I didn't want a pressure gate up against the banister or a walk-thru one with such a small walk thru for that area. It's been there for 4 years and will probably still be there 4 years from now.

Re: Talk to me about baby gates for the stairs!
My favorite gate is our top of stairway gate - it's a cardinal gate. I love how you can open it with one hand easily and closes nicely.
We have some other gates both walk through and hop over that are all 'ok'.
