No homebirth for me :(

Apparently I can't do a homebirth in NC. It's practically impossible to find a midwife who is legally allowed to because of the crazy laws and I LOVE the midwife I have now, who is the one I had for DS. I tried convincing her to do a homebirth for me anyways. We just bought our first house so I actually feel like I would be comfortable with home birth (Which I was not comfortable with the idea in the trailer we were in before). And the master bathroom is nice and big with a huge tub! I told my midwife that we could pretend that its an unassisted homebirth and that she is a friend who is there for support Its not like my neighbors would know! lol I think she wants to but I'm not sure if she would because of the legality issues... sigh

You can say you did not have time to get to the hospital, a friend of mine did that in the same situation.

Re: No homebirth for me :(

I see it says Fort Mill for your location. Are you in Charlotte now? Could you maybe do a hotel "homebirth" across state lines w/ a S.C. midwife? Also, the birthing center in Fort Mill would be better than having to go to the hospital. I don't know what your comfort level is, but it's not illegal to have a homebirth in N.C. (unassisted) just illegal for a midwife other than a CNM to attend them. Good luck!

Re: No homebirth for me :(

I wasn't aware that homebirth was illegal ANYWHERE in the US. WOW! I'm sorry, mama.

Like a PP said, it's not illegal for you to do it... it's just illegal for anyone to help you in some states!

Re: No homebirth for me :(

Yeah we recently moved to Charlotte, I should change that... but I'm not sure if I'm ready to do an unassisted birth. Maybe for #3 but I don't know what I would do without the support of my midwife. She's awesome Maybe I'll just have the hubby call her to come visit and surprise her by being to far in labor to transport to the Center, lol! a friend of mine said we could use her house if we wanted but I'm not sure. It seems like it would be practically the same as going to the Center. I like the idea of being HOME. We'll see... And thanks mamas

Re: No homebirth for me :(

When my 4th was born in VA, MWs had to be CNMs, there weren't CPMs. I used a lay midwife. So it was illegal for HER, but not me. Of course, if anything had come up and we had to go to the hospital, I would not have ratted her out. Now, all the lay midwives have become CPMs, so I can't go that route (can't afford it).

Re: No homebirth for me :(

Hope things workout for you. The state I live in, a CNM can not even assist a homebirth. Like pp said I can have a homebirth legally, just cant have someone assist.
