What is wrong with my baby's skin?

ds is 10 weeks old. He has had this 'rash'pretty much since he was born. It's on his face, chest, neck, elbows, back of knees, and the fingers he tries to suck. He is also starting to get cradle cap.

Doc gave us a name of what he thought it was (can't recall what it was though ) but he did say it was like excema and would likely be out grown by 12 mths.

But now I have notice a hew pattern....wherever he gets wet often (face, neck chest from drooling and spitting and fingers from trying to suck) the rash looks worse. His elbows make no sense though.

Anyone have any ideas? It looks worse IRL, it is hard to capture on camera.

ETA: The funny thing about the wetness is no signs of diaper rash at all, just where he slobbers and spits

It looks similar to my ds's eczema. Perhaps it could be psoriasis (sp)?

eczema! DS has had it since he was born... Mosturize his skin with aveeno (the eczema cream) twice a day and see if it improves. If it doesn't then your doc will probably tell you to use 0.5% cortizone cream...

My ds2 was like this for months and I finally figured out he has dairy, soy allergies and we find out what else tomorrow. The only things that helped it clear (before I realized it was allergy related) was to wash him with a paste made of aveeno oatmeal bath slathered on body and scalp and rinsed off ( worked great for the "cradle cap!") then a layer of eucerine cream, then a layer of aveeno calming lotion. (also but the calming on his scalp.) good luck! Sent from iphone

That looks like eczema to me. DS was like that with any diary. If you are bfing look to your diet and see if his skin doesn't get better.

DD had the same thing since birth too. I use CJ's on her and that really keeps it at bay for us. Definitely could be allergy related too, I know my DD's flares more with any dairy in her diet (mostly on her arms and elbows is where it flares from dairy). Sorry you are dealing with that!

That is eczema! Has it been low humidity where you live or do you live in a low humidity area? DS's skin looks precisely like that all winter and starts to clear up as spring rolls around. I put CJ's or Aquaphor on his "hot spots" around his knees and elbows and thighs. I then cover him with a thick layer of Aveeno baby eczema lotion. I use the Mustela soap free body wash and bath oil in his bath. It has improved his skin sososo much. Feel free to pm me if you have questions. I've been through every "cure" there is and the above products are the best I've found! If we skip a day, we are back to patches and bumps and hot spots. If I use the products, he's completely smooth and smells wonderful to boot.
