raw milk doesn't rot like store bought milk. raw milk clabbers and you can eat it still (curds and whey) unless your milk has an overabundance of bad bacteria they good bacteria should just cause it to clabber

Re: When does fresh milk expire?

Okie-interesting! My hubby won't let me keep it long enough to let it do that! I'll be making cottage cheese today though. Growing up, My husband's parents would keep the milk in the fridge without a lid on it and I think by so many days in there, it would soak up the smell of the other foods and whatnot and that's what scarred DH, but who knows...

We get a gallon and a half everyday so I'm not too worried about it since we don't buy it (dh's parents get the other gallon and a half).

well once your past the point of feeling its at its freshest just leave it on the counter till it seperates and voila curds and whey! the whey is super protien packed (hence whey protien drinks) and you can add it to soups smoothies etc. for a protien punch

also u can use the curds as a replacement for cream cheese, sour cream, heavy cream in a lot of recipes you can strain it to thicken it and add chives and garlic to make a yummy spread or spread on toast with jam on top it also kinda melts when heated so you can add to casseroles and whatnot

Re: When does fresh milk expire?

I just buy it from a nearby farm, they're really clean. I think they have like 3 cows. Fresh milk is easier on my lactose intolerant boy's tummy- he can drink it with no problems.
