Amish Friendship Bread anyone? pics added
My family and I love the Amish friendship breads that we make. I let my starter multiply until I have a ton (like 45 loaves worth)...then I do one big bread baking day and then frezze them in large gallon baggies. Then we just grab out a loaf whenever. Kids love it for breakfast, snacks, desert...whenever. I make apple, cinamon and chocolate chip...is there anymore good ones y'all know about? I am gearing up for a bake this weekend....
Thought I'd add some pics of my crazy bake day! I started this morning..and I am still baking! lol! It was such a huge mess in my tiny kitchen...but I won't have to do it again for a very long time! Apple and Chocolate ![]() Some of them labeled and ready to go into the freezer. ![]() others still waiting for their turn in the oven ![]()

Re: Amish Friendship Bread anyone?
I would love your recipe if you don't mind sharing. Our neighbor had given us some a few years ago, but eventually we didn't keep it going anymore and I forgot to save the recipe.

Re: Amish Friendship Bread anyone?
I had some going for a while, and then ants got it. Blech! They were no where else in the kitchen, but the starter was FULL of them. This was last summer and I keep meaning to restart it. Thanks for the motivation!!

Re: Amish Friendship Bread anyone?
I haven't heard of it but it sounds great! My oven isn't working properly right now so I've been avoiding baking much. *sigh*

Re: Amish Friendship Bread anyone?
Sure ladies!
The basic starter, I found it on allrecipes.com..thats easier than me typing it all out so her is a link. http://allrecipes.com/recipe/amish-f...e7=Home%20Page Apple cinnamon: http://allrecipes.com/search/default...in=Home%20Page This one is pretty neat as you can pretty much add whatever you want to it: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/amish-f...e7=Home%20Page my family's fave: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/amish-f...e7=Home%20Page but we also add chocolate chips to it..as that is how I ate it growing up. Its the best choco cake ever! I am going to try this one this time.. http://allrecipes.com/recipe/lemon-p...e7=Home%20Page Also this amish fruit bread starter: http://www.cooks.com/rec/view/0,176,...240194,00.html What I do to make up a large batch is double the starter (so instead of 1 cup of flour, sugar, milk and 1 yeast pkg, I do double it.) Then on the 5th day I of course double it then as well and on the 10th day. On the 10th day. instead of baking (but after adding the flour, sugar and milk) I take out one cup starter and put it in its own gallon sized baggie. I do this untill original batch is distributed into baggies(makes 12) then start with day two on the following day and on days 5 and 10 add your flour, sugar, milk..only this time just add the regular amount without doubling. Each bag will have 4 cups in it when done. Thats 48 loaves of bread to bake. You could also give away some starter. Though, I find it hard to get people to take it. I don't save any starter, I bake it all and then start the starter again when we are running out of bread. We do a big assembly line (the girls and I) and bake most the day. You can even get a helper (i did this once and she took some loaves home for her family) my girls like to give it away as little gifts to friends and family. It's much easier to find the bread homes than the starter! lol!

The only downer about living in the middle of know where is no high speed internet!! Our Hot Spot (when it's working) is all we get I just like when people talk about Amish but really do not know much, if anything about them - I would totally 'homestead' but we can get all our produce, eggs, meat (beef/pork) from the Amish at dirt cheap. Much cheaper then the cost of raising it our self. Oh - and the Amish children are SO cute walking to school every day You guys would love it!
