All day trip

Saturday morning I'm leaving home at 8 am and won't be back until probably 8 pm for work. I'm also not going to have anywhere to pump during that time as it is a very full day in a remote location. I've never really been successful with hand expression. Anybody have any tips? DS is 11 months. Do you think I'm setting myself up for disaster?

12 hours is a long time if you are used to pumping/nursing during that time. You could set yourself up for a bad case of mastitis. At the very least, you will likely get VERY uncomfortable and not enjoy the last 4-6 hours of your trip How about a hand pump?

*If your location would have no private areas, you could hand pump under a nursing cover.

Battery charged pump and do it in the bathroom? You can pump and dump it if the bathroom grosses you out. 12 hours will be too long in terms of comfort and leaking. Unless baby only nurses once a day. Good luck!! Whatever you figure out I hope it goes well

A hand pump is a great suggestion. I've had mastitis a few times, and the major cause (for me) was waiting too long between pumping/nursing when I was in school.

I am driving, but one of my male students is riding with me, so that is out. I could try and get a manual pump though for the bathroom.

It's funny no matter how comfortable I am nip, I could NEVER pump in front of anyone. It weirds me out to even pump in front of dh

Could you take a break during the day to pump in the car when the male driver is not around? I've pumped in my car once at a big event and I used batteries in my Ameda and threw on my nursing cover.

Re: All day trip

I'd definitely suggest a manual pump. You can use it in the bathroom or the car if it is nearby during the day.
