Oh I hurt BAD!

I finally decided to completely go to FFing instead of just supplementing. Basically everything I ate gave her gas...literally any vegetable and a lot of meats. AND she projectile spit-uped every time I drank milk. So, if you take out all those things out of my diet...my milk wasn't that healthy! AND she has her first cold already....where are those antibodies when you need them???

ANYWAY....I hurt really bad! I'm SO engorged! I had to pump a tiny bit over night so that I could sleep. DH went and bought cabbage this morning, so now I stink of warming cabbage.... How long is the pain going to last?!?! I'm guessing it will go on longer b/c I nursed her almost a month rather than not nursing at all...

Sorry for the whine.... I'm also sad that it's over. I nursed YDS for a yr and it makes me sad I couldn't do it for a full month for her(thanks to YDS and her gas problems).

Try Sudafed. That will help dry you up.

Honestly, I think it was just a day or two. And yes, excrutiating. Even my boobs laying on eachother was horrid.

I rotated warm and cold compresses and took the good ibuprofen from my csection.

I know it's not recommended, but it worked for me. I wrapped my boobs with an ace bandage (tight enough to lift the weight off of them and stop them from touching each other, but not too tight) and put on a snug training bra and shoved ice packs in there. I also took the ibuprofen i was given at the hossy, I dried up in 2-3 days, good luck mama, I know how painful it can be.

It takes me about 3 days to dry up. Though, I never get really engorged or experience a lot of pain (some yes, but not awful). I had a super low supply though so that is why. I did cabbage leaves to soothe and if I needed to I took ibuprofen.

How are you doing? Is it any better? For me pumping a bit a few times a day helped. It made it take longer to dry up, but that was fine with me as I didn't hurt at all.

Re: Oh I hurt BAD!

Day 1, I pumped 3 times. Day 2, after being in so much that I could barely stand it--I let her nurse on both sides for a few minutes. After that I haven't had any more pain I'm only full-not engorged! So, it was only an uncomfortable/painful 2 days!!

Now of course I'm sad....I quit out of convenience not b/c of supply problems. My almost 2.5 yr old DS was not tolerating me spending 40min on the couch every 1-2.5hrs. And I could barely provide meals at night b/c she always wanted to nurse around dinner time--which delayed everything and the kids were getting to bed late without their homework done. Plus, I had to cut out every single vegetable to keep her from getting gas.

Despite all that, I am having major guilt over quitting. And 90% of me wants to start up again....but then all my DDC ladies are still nursing their LOs every 1-2.5 hrs and I know I can't handle that right now...

DH, thankfully, is supportive of what ever I want to do...

Hugs mama! What you are feeling is totally normal. I experience it every time to some degree. Don't feel guilty! You made the best choice for your family. Hang in there!
