OMG...they finally get it.
After two weeks of me having to put the chickens in the coop one at a time at night, they *finally* were all in there when I went to close the coop tonight.
![]() The trick that finally got them to use the darn ladder - mealworms, placed on each rung all the way up to the coop, several times a day to give them lots of practice (did that for three days). Advertisement

Re: OMG...they finally get it.
LOL I remember that. When we were at that stage last summer, we left MIL at the house to chicken sit one night, and she just about lost it getting all the girls in. It's nice when they learn to go in at night. I also found I had to learn that it was easier if I let them decide when bedtime was.

oh dear. Do you still have to do this if your coop is inside a run? Chasing my nine in there should be interesting. LOL

Re: OMG...they finally get it.
We just wait till its dark and there half a sleep then pick them up and shut them in the coop with the door blocked, then in the morning we let them out. It usually take 3 days to a week and they get the hint. Now we just leave the door open 24/7 and they put themselves to sleep and the dogs keep the predators away.

Re: OMG...they finally get it.
We have never had to round ours up. Not sure what that is like
![]() We always just raise them in their coop and then eventually turn them out. They return at dusk all on their own! I guess we are blessed!
