Bare minimum bring baby home needs?

Trying to get only the stuff we really need (on very tight income) and since it's been almost 7 years I can't quite remember.

We will breastfeed, cloth diaper and cosleep. So what do we absolutely need when we come home from the birth center?

Diapers, clothes, a few blankets. For you, nursing pads and pospartum pads! And of course, a boob

ETA: Oh, yes, a carseat! Duuuuhhh...

24 nb sized diapers, cloth wipes (maybe 3 dozen?), carseat, some sleepers for baby, lanolin and breast pads for you, baby nail clippers, maybe a swaddler or two?

one more thing Organic coconut oil (you may already have this). its the only thing that's always worked on diaper rashes and its perfect for when baby gets those flaky dry skin patches.

Re: Bare minimum bring baby home needs?

24-36 small pf diapers
3-4 covers
cloth wipes
breastpads, lanolin, post-partum pads
baby clothes
CARSEAT
couple blankets large enough to swaddle OR use as nursing covers OR use as ground cover

Nice to have:
baby carrier (for baby wearing) - whichever style you like
baby nail clippers (but can use adult ones or a file that you already have)
dedicated diaper bag (but can use whatever bags you already have around the house)

Re: Bare minimum bring baby home needs?

carseat, diapers & wipes, a couple blankets. Usually I would say clothes, but our summer baby seriously didn't wear clothes in the house at all, she pretty much only got dressed when we went out...and since that wasn't very often those first couple months, most of her 0-3 month clothes didn't get used....as long as you have some way to keep them appropriately warm/cool for the weather, that's all that matters. Some place to set them down when you're not right there with them is nice too, like a bouncy chair or swing, but they're definitely not required. I've had baby nail clippers with all of our kids, but I find it easier to just bite their nails

I would definitely say either a swaddler or a few receiving blankets to swaddle the baby in! They were my saving grace (and still are at 14 weeks) to getting a few hours of sleep at a time. I would also say lots of onesies, especially if you're baby is coming in summer. We went through so many outfits in the first few weeks. Congratulations on your new baby!

Re: Bare minimum bring baby home needs?

I never swaddled, so I didn't need those, but receiving blankets make great swaddlers and do many other things- light blankets, changing pad for the floor, nursing cover, etc. so you don't have to have ones that are specific to swaddling

So for me:
car seat
baby carrier (my beco 4G I cannot do without!)
for CDs- flats bc they can double as burp clothes, etc
coconut oil for diaper rash, eczema on babies or PP issues you might have
baby undershirts
cloth wipes (or use baby washcloths)
a few covers (I use wool and only needed like 2-3)
I loved having babylegs, then I didn't need longies and stuff and if it was cold in a store and warm outside, it was an easy fix.

Carseat
Swaddler blanket
Nursing pads/tanks or nursing bra
prefolds
Covers
Cloth wipes/peri bottle to wet them from hospital
A couple of sleepers/outfits
Bouncer is really nice if you can find a used one inexpensively
