So...what is the deal with this?

I am not considering it, just stumbled upon it and wanted to learn something new today...so teach me.

What do you think? Legit or crazy? Seems almost like the bubble bum idea but built into a 5 point harness.

It is an older seat. Discontinued awhile ago. Probably a pretty old DOM. They require a top tether.

Re: So...what is the deal with this?

I want one for my 5 year old. They would fit nice in tight spaces and I like the extended harness use over the regular seat belt.

It's legit. It's a niche seat, one that is great for carpools or travel by train or taxi where you wouldn't want to lug a big seat around. It's not inflatable so it's different from the Bubblebum. As far as I know it's a current seat. Stats for this seat can be found here: http://www.car-seat.org/showthread.php?t=151117

Too bad it isn't available in Canada. This would probably be a good travel seat for us (provided the rental has latch). It is active on the Safety 1st Website, so it might still be manufactured.

We had one when dd was smaller. It was a great travel seat. It came with a travel bag and fit into the overhead bin on an airplane--dd was big enough to sit in just the airline seat. Also worked great in our campervan where the child seat needed to be removed and stored each night when the bench seat was unfolded into a bed. I was sad when dd outgrew it!

It can be really good for tight 3-across situations. It would have worked for 3 across in my nearly-impossible car, BUT BUT BUT it didn't install tightly! It was a huge disappointment!

I stand corrected...Safeguard USED to make it and they discontinued it. But Safety 1st is making it now.

I have one and we like it a lot. We needed it for exactly that ^. I have a Saturn Ion and 3 in car seats. Not ready to put my 4 yr old in a seat belt, so this was what worked for us. Ours has a really tight fit tho...even tighter that the other 2. And yes, top tether is required

Re: So...what is the deal with this?

I've looked at this before and typically love Safety 1st carseats, at least the Air line. Overall I like this seat but how young would you really use this for? I think the manufacturer's instructions allow for really young babies/toddlers, am I reading that right? Can this be used as a typical FFing/combo seat?
