Do you wash your carseat cover before use?

OK so I wash everything I buy before I use it for baby, but I have never had a brand new carseat (always bought from friends/family who I trust). I just got my britax marathon 70 in the mail a few weeks ago and am getting ready to practice installing it in my car (baby is not due till july) but was thinking about washing it first. Is this something everyone does first? Does it make it less safe ect... I know not to wash the buckle straps.

I believe it is hand wash only. I never did, but thinking back, maybe I should have...

I have never washed a seat cover prior to use. I wash nearly everything else, but I really never thought about washing the cover. You could, though. The Marathon cover is easy to take off and I wash it on gentle in the machine, then hang dry.

I washed the infant seat cover before dd was born (new seat) but I have gone through 6 seats since then and never washed before use.

I did wash the infant seat again after dd for ds to use...it needs another wash now!

Nope. I wash the covers as little as possible.

I didn't think you were supposed to. I have a Recaro Como. My manual says only that it can be wiped down. You might check your manual.

Re: Do you wash your carseat cover before use?

We bought DD's infant seat used from someone we trust, and I washed the cover before using it in case of dust, pet hair etc.. We just installed her convertible seat, and did not wash the cover, and won't unless we have a need to.

Re: Do you wash your carseat cover before use?

I always wash them before use b/c they've likely been sprayed with chemicals. And they might also be returns, so who knows what house they've been in. Could have bugs, etc. Perhaps I'm just paranoid...but I wash everything we buy before using/wearing, even if new.
