We used Charlie's soap for the first two years and recently switched to Ecos. Out diapers inserts were getting stinky and stripping wasn't working. Switching to Ecos got rid of the stink. We still use Charlie's on our clothes for now since we have a couple tubs of the powder left.

We have hard water with a top loader.

I have a FL machine and I was doing 3 cycles sometimes 4 before. I would love to cut that down a bit.
I just do a cold rinse and then your standard HOT/COLD wash setting. Nothing special at all. I do not use a FL though and the key I think is that I use VERY hot water.

Cool! I have a sanitize cycle on my machine. That I guess would work.

Re: What is the best green detergent for diapers?

Maggies went out of business like 3 years ago - I use Eco Nuts - the difference between the nuts is like night and day, seriously. I mean that in that eco nuts are so much better. I get many more re-uses. Maggies I tired and I was throwing them out after liek 4 washes. Eco Nuts last for like 12.
If you have a FL you HAVE to try the econuts liquid detergent - you can wash in any temp water you want. It's liquid soapnuts and it comes in a teeny bottle but lasts forever. We switched to a FL but I have a top loader I when we go visit my parents house so I'm an expert on soap nuts in both machines now

CHARLIES SOAP! It takes care of any build up that me be on there and has ingredients that do not build up. I used Ecos for awhile and could never get them to rinse completely. I have a frontloader and Charlie's works wonders!

Yeah, I bought 10 pounds of maggies soap nuts in a coop a LONG time ago so that is why I use them still. When I finally run out (not anytime soon) I will get some eco nuts.

Been using All Free and Clear which has been working fine but I just bought some Ecos because I want to try it out. I have used Eco nuts in the past and liked them but we can't get them locally anymore
