Re: Can i be denied a try to vbac
I would contact ICAN and see if there are any VBAC friendly providers around you. I know that there are plenty of VBAC friendly providers around me (I've had 2 HBACs)...but it would be extremely difficult to find anyone to go ahead with a VBA2C. I'm not saying it isn't possible, I just know at least in my state that more than 1 c/s makes it much less likely that a doctor will be supportive. I hope you find a supportive caregiver

Re: Can i be denied a try to vbac
Definitely keep looking for a VBAC friendly provider. If you find one that your insurance doesn't cover, ask about self pay prices. In some cases, you'd end up paying the same amount out of pocket (unless you have really great insurance that covers it all), or possibly even less, with self pay prices.
Have you considered a home birth? If not, research homebirth midwives that do VBACs as well. I don't think I'd feel comfortable waiting until I'm practically pushing to head to the hospital, though I don't think they could deny you a VBAC if the baby is crowning when you come in the doors. I've read the same thing that PP mentioned, the doctor is likely to charge you if you don't show up for the c/s! Good luck!!! |

Re: Can i be denied a try to vbac
You can't be forced to do anything. I'd try reeeeeally hard to find a doc who was supportive of vbac, but if I couldn't, I'd ask not to be vaginally checked. I'd ask the nurse to come back in 30 minutes... like every time she walked in. I would not use a doc who scheduled a c/s for me like I had no say in the matter.
BUT- I'd only do these things if I felt very confident in my body and my self. I'd really build myslef up mentally to do these things without being contentious. I have a friend who is a LD nurse and once she had a patient who politely and calmly refused... EVERYTHING. They can't FORCE anything on you. This LD nurse says you can TOTALLY remind the nurse and the doc that if they touch you against your will, you will call 911 and report battery- she had a patient say that to the resident on call once!!! But again, it all depends, imo, on your confidence level. If you have secret doubts, that can be detrimental. If you feel STRONGLY about it, though, I bet you can make your vbac happen, medical emergencies aside of course!!!

Re: Can i be denied a try to vbac
Just a note- I have another friend who showed up at an er in labor with her 2nd baby. She had diabetes and her 1st was a c/s.
She did not provide ANY of this info at the er. She just walked in and said they had just moved into town (that was true) and hadn't found a doctor yet. No one gave them crap, no one looked up her old medical records, nada. She walked out the next day with her baby. Insurance paid as usual. It took guts, but I thought it was pretty brilliant of her. (She had been taking excellent care of herself and baby and getting prenatal care, BTW!)

My first child was a c-section my second was a vaginal birth .. I had to go a hour away to get it but I got it this baby is a planned vbac as long as all is healthy i once again am going a hour away !! Goodluck another option would be a homebirth ...
