I didn't officially do it last year because we were moving. Two weeks later though we went camping and I did it. It was not as hard as I had thought it was going to be. For night we used two flats oragami folded with a hemp we had no issues.

Thank you!!!! I don't need any covers, but I will order two dozen flats. I'm so excited! Is it horrible that I am excited about washing my dds poopy diapers by hand?! :-)

Re: 2nd annual flats and handwashing challenge!

Does a hand cranked pressure washer count as hand washing? I have one for emergency use as in the electric is out for an extended period of time and laundry still needs doing.

Never mind. I found the answer on the link given by the op. It is allowed as long as it is hand powered and under $100. Anyone who would like one can find them at lehmans nonelectric web site. I bought mine several years ago for $50. I've used it a couple of times and it got the diapers as clean as my regular washer.

Can I ask a silly question -- why would you choose to handwash when you have a washing machine? I promise I'm not being snarky, I really am curious! I can't imaging choosing to handwash diapers when you don't have to.

According to the rules, it counts as handwashing.

It's basically to show people that you can cloth diaper with very limited resources.

The idea is to show Mama's that cant afford diapers or dont want to do cloth because of the laundry mat or somehting that it can be done.

Someitmes I wonder how these Mama's will find out when they cant afford the laundry mat or a washer how are they on the internet. LOL.. but there is always the library. And WOM.

I've simplified recently, so this totally might be something I'd be game for.

I have wondered the same thing! I guess people just have their priorities messed up.

Re: 2nd annual flats and handwashing challenge!

My dh actually thought that it was a worthwhile experiment. No, I wouldn't choose to handwash, but I did the tub method & it was actually quicker than my washing machine. I let them soak in between rinsing, washing (agitating, stomping), & rinsing. The largest amount of effort was wringing them out. Also, this is when I fell in love w/flats. And I discovered that my lo's morning dipes didn't have to sing my nose hairs w/ammonia. It really helped me figure out getting my dipes clean. (Sounds strange, but it did.)
