Question Anyone treated ear infection without antibiotics?

We took DD to the doc today, she said her ear hurt her. Her doc says her ear us a bit red and even let me look in here ear so I knew what it looked like. There is no puss it's just red right now. She has never had an ear infection before. She is almost 5. I did fill the RX for the antibiotics but I'd rather not use them. I got some ear drops ( Oregons wild harvest ear drops) and I also have Native Remedies Eddy ear sprinkles ( it's a homeopathic for ear infections).

My plan is to give the ear drops and homeopathic remedy but if it doesn't seem to be improving or gets worse to start the antibiotics.

Anyone else done this and not had to use antibiotics?

Thanks!

We've never done abx for ear infections. We just treat them with either garlic oil (some success, not always) or Citricidal drops (grapefruit seed extract and tea tree oil. The Citricidal always knocks it out immediately.

What product did you use for the Citricidal ? I have a bottle of Proseed grapefriut seed extract liquid concentrate, did you dilute yours?

I've always treated with breast milk and/or homeopathic drops.

I just bought Citricidal brand ear drops so that I didn't have to mess with figuring out the right dilution. I'm not sure what it would be.

If you don't use them make sure your doctor knows. I decided not to use antibiotics on my youngest (he gets GI issues on them) and was told this was an option, but I had to bring him back in 4 days later so the Dr. could make sure it was improving. I was told not to put anything in his ear, just use Tylenol for pain/fever as long as it was manageable.
It did go away on it's own, his ear drained some nasty puss for about 2-3 days. Just be careful that it doesn't turn acute, then it can lead to meningitis and other not so light infections.

Re: Anyone treated ear infection without antibiotics?

I work for an audiologist. He is a slightly crunchy kind of guy (they cd too ). Home remedies on an ear infection can help if they are caught soon enough. However...sometimes an infection will get worse no matter what you try. Be sure to keep monitoring it closely! A low-grade fever is ok...but if it starts climbing high you may want to consider the antibiotics! A severe ear infection can turn into VERY bad things...and can result in permanent hearing loss.

Thanks! I will watch her closely. So far she has no temp, and says her ear feels better. I think we did catch it very early, it was just starting to get red and no puss or drainage.
