This is half true. Most are secondary infections caused by a virus. But antibiotics do work in killing the bacteria that has been able to grow by means of extra fluid caused by the virus in the inner ear.
So the bacteria will be killed but not the virus that is causing ideal growing conditions for it.

Re: Anyone treated ear infection without antibiotics?

Here are a couple of things we did that worked naturally!

If you BF, squirt BM in there (natural antibiotic).
Take a whole garlic clove, put in the infected ear & tape it shut with medical tape.

They've worked for us, but you need to do what you need to do if natural doesn't work (:
Good Luck Mama!

We've used our Balm as well & two main ingredients are what she used!

I 2nd this method...The tea tree is going to kill the infection & the coconut oil will help get it in there (;

I take a q-tip & our balm (or the 2 ingredients above if you have them) & gently place in ear...if you ONLY have tea tree, that may work too...I seriously on a WEEKLY basis kill cold sores, ears that are threatening ear infections, sore throats & MORE with tea tree....its amazing stuff!

What she said! We've never sauteed it, that's a thought..... & we tape it for an hour nasty ear infections & it's GONE by the next morning!

Re: Anyone treated ear infection without antibiotics?

My kids havent had ear infections yet, but growing up we used to take the inside (bulb part) of an onion and heat it for a couple seconds put that in the ear then cover with a hot damp washcloth. Always worked!

yes, this!!!

I am not an antibiotic kind of girl...my 5 year old has been on it maybe 5 times and my 2year old maybe twice.

Ear infections are one thing I don't mess with.

Re: Anyone treated ear infection without antibiotics?

My daughter had chronic ear infections even after two surgeries. Instead of oral antibiotics we requested using ear drops. They make antibiotic ear drops that treats the acute area only and does not interfere with GI. We had to do this because nothing else would help, they are extremely pricey, like $80 with insurance, but it beats becomming immune to antibiotics and not working for more serious issues that could come about in the future.

Re: Anyone treated ear infection without antibiotics?

With 8 kids in 17 years I have NEVER given an antibiotic for an ear infection. So yes, it is possible to not need one and be fine.

In fact, 6 of the 8 have NEVER had an anitbiotic or ANY meds for sickness ever.

For earaches/infection I use any of these below:

breastmilk- even if it is from a donor mama, it works. Put it in ear like ear drops 4 times a day!

garlic, crushed and warmed in coconut or olive oil. Use like the breastmilk

colodial silver, if you want to be extra cautious. Take orally and put a drop or two in ear.
