Even if I had not had preemies I would have stayed in, especially during flu and RSV season. Church is important to me but is also about the germ sharing-est place on the planet next to daycare. Babies or not, I don't use the pens at the doctors office and wash or spritz my hands with sanitizer after using the credit card things at checkouts. I have no desire to share nasties!

Re: When would you take a newborn out in public?

Well...the adoption agency insisted that I take my 4 day old to my peditricans office for a well visit..Talk about a place full of germs..and then the peditricians office sent him to the hospital blood lab for a routine blood work up...again full of germs. So at that point we just continued to go out.
Adoption is my option!Adoptive Mom to Cory (6 years old)
Heartbreakingly long wait to adopt baby 2. (5 years waiting at this point with no end in sight) Please lord..end this wait soon.

All the kids we went to a store on the way home. ODS we went to DHs great uncles bday party within a week (didn't know if it would be the last we could see him). The rest we went to stores (and Drs of course) as needed but avoided large gatherings (Easter, Christmas, or birthdays) until after 6 weeks.

My mental health doesn't cope well to being stuck in the house. We went out almost daily unless the weather made it dangerous (we has a week of -40 Celsius)

When my first was born, we stayed home three weeks. I was a leaky, hormonal mess and didn't want to even think about leaving the house.

With dd, we were out at a moms group when she was 7 days old, the park at 9 days old. The chiro at 3 days old. Lol. I had a 5 year old that isn't in school - we couldn't stay home long, even if I wanted to.

We go out right from the beginning. I do keep the newbie in the Moby or Peanut Shell, though, to avoid people poking at them and/or wanting to hold them. With this one, I don't think we'll be able to avoid it.... the bigger kids are in soccer, swimming lessons, ballet and tumbling at various times throughout the summer, so the newbie will come right along with us!

Ds1 was out on his third day, even though I had a c-section. We went to church.
I think ds2 was pretty similar; and since he was my natural birth babe and I had no complications after, we went out more. With both I wore them in a sling.
