I don't wait any special time before going out of the house...I have 3 other kids who are on the go constantly so a newbie won't slow us down. The only reason I would stay in would for my own recovery.

I took both of my boys out within days of being born. To the grocery store, park, friends/relatives houses, etc.

Re: When would you take a newborn out in public?

With Ds1 I had to sign loan papers for our construction loan and than pay for our house (we moved it), I had him on Sunday on tuesday I was signing and on Wednesday I paid for the house and was at women's bible study at church.

With Ds2 I had him on a Friday evening and drove him and his brother to church on Sunday. Dh had to work after church. I had a great friend who came over later in the day just to do my dishes and play with ds1 so ds2 and I could rest.

My pede just recommended 2 months to be out in public for any length of time. I'm never in a hurry to take my Los out though. We have several open houses and my dh is in a wedding in June. We will not be taking lo to any of these. I will be staying home or mil will watch lo 5 for a few hours here and there.

Same here. (He went home on a Thursday, and had bilirubin tests every day or 2 all through a week and the following weekend.)

But I don't think I ever gave any thought to how soon to take them out. I think I just did when I needed to...so whenever that was. Both were healthy (other than jaundice) and full term, though, so I had no particular fear of germs.

Re: When would you take a newborn out in public?

On day 5 DD had her appt at the pediatrician and I had a follow-up appt at my doctor due to some healing complications. Not enough time to go home in between so we ate lunch out! She stayed in her carseat and slept the whole time.

Re: When would you take a newborn out in public?

All of my children have been NICU babies and the way the NICU treats us after our loss I see no point in waiting after the child is home to take them out. With DS, he was born on a Friday, home the following Thursday, and we had a Ped appointment the following day, and we were at church on Sunday. I have c-sections but I am normally off pain meds by 1 week so why wait?
