Re: Newborn Diaper Sew-A-Long 04/25-05/02
Hi! Im looking around at some of the different newborn diaper patterns, and had a question for all of you more sewing savvy mamas. What are your thoughts on making a newborn fitted with a fleece inner and outer with an AIO soaker in the middle. Im thinking to make it stay dry against skin and hold in the pee so i wont need to use covers.
I want to make the newbie diapers with a snap down for the cord... would this fabric combo be too bulky? If not, what is the best fleece to use to hold moisture in? Also thinking of just tacking down the elastic on each end of the leg casings like the BG pockets so if it ever dies i can fix it... Im only asking about this becasue most of the patterns I have seen shows me sewing along the whole length of the elastic... im open to all suggestions! i plan to make one and see how it goes then tweek it from there. I may combine a few pattern ideas to make my own

for stay dry the best fleece is microfleece....it is thinner and has a tighter weave...but most places don't carry it in store, diaper fabric stores carry it though. I know some sewing mama's have been able to use fleece from regular stores for covers and stay dry...not sure which one. Now if someone is talking about bamboo fleece...that is for absorbancy, not stay dry. as for the elastic question I'm not sure....but just remember the NB size isn't worn very long....so I wouldn't be too worried about my elastic wearing out...now if you r making mediums or OS dipes that may be different. It took about 2 years of constant use for my pocket elastic to die last time. ![]() Oooh BTW I went in Joann's today, they had some of the solid PUL on clearance for $6/yd....next time red tag goes half off I'll be checking to see if there's any left. It was solids....prints not included, I think it was some solids they had before the Babyville stuff came out....so check your local store never know what you will find on the clearance table!

I finally made some dipes!
Attachment 104362 Attachment 104363 Attachment 104364 The pattern is from a BGXS that I took the bad elastic out of a traced. The inside is poly velour and the soaker is MF. ETA: I have no clue why the pics posted twice!

Re: Newborn Diaper Sew-A-Long 04/25-05/02
it is! I went with the larger NB pattern and left off the snaps so I can fold it down and snappi when she's smaller but have lots of stretch and room for growth too!
