Re: Overdue babies and short labors

Mine's been the opposite

DD1 40w3d, 12 hours active labor, 24+ hours if you count everything.
DD2 40w, induced, 6 hours active labor
DS 38w 3d, 90 minutes active labor

Re: Overdue babies and short labors

I've given birth 5 times. The first 4 were on time or early and varied from 56 hours to 19 hours. My fifth birth however, I was 3 days late and was in labor only 10 hours. Perhaps it is true?

Re: Overdue babies and short labors

That held true for me, but my labors kept getting shorter and my time overdue kept getting shorter also.

#1 42 weeks on the dot - 6 hours from the first tiny hint to baby in my arms
#2 41 weeks 1 day - 3 hours from first hint to baby
#3 40 weeks 3 days - less than one hour, it was so crazy fast, I'm not sure exactly how long it was.

We are done having kiddos, partly because I was for real scared that I would be caught out and about somewhere and just start giving birth. I know that no labor is the same, but I had enough of a pattern going that I was honestly scared to have another!

I have always believed that your Mother's labors are a good indicator of how your own will be. I think some people are just designed to birth rapidly. I don't think it matters with me, when I have my babies, it's going to be fast. Maybe because I tell myself so.

Re: Overdue babies and short labors

my most overdue baby, my water broke at 3:30 contractions started at about 6 and he was out at 7:20. He was also my first.

The rest were all overdue and quick as well, but not quite that quick.

Re: Overdue babies and short labors

both of mine were early and short labors--
DS1--35wk5d--from water breaking and actually feeling contractions to being born 3 hrs (pushing 5 min). He was also pitocin helped

DS2--37 weeks-- from first omg this is a real contractions to water breaking to him being born--20 min.

needless to say this time around i am a little scared.

Re: Overdue babies and short labors

I only have one labor to report on so far, but he was born 6 days late with 2 days of early labor and 18hrs of active labor (only 5 mins of pushing, tho). As of today I am 2 days shy of my EDD with baby # 2, and expecting baby to be late & labor to be long....we'll see
