Car shopping for a big family

We're car shopping right now for our ever-growing family. We're up to 3 kids, one on the way, and we will most likely have more in the future. What's the best vehicle to get? I was originally thinking mini-van, but it can't really tow our trailer that we take camping. Then I was thinking passenger van, but they get terrible gas mileage. Now we are leaning towards a diesel Excursion.

I guess, here is what I'm asking: what do you drive, what do you love about it, and what do you hate about it?
