My Mood:
Iron Stores and Surgery

Hi, mamas. DS2 has a cleft lip. Our pediatrician recommended that we start a vitamin supplement (Poly-Vi-Sol) to increase his iron for the upcoming surgery. I know that adding any sort of iron supplement to an exclusively breastfed baby can affect how iron is absorbed, so I'm really not comfortable adding the supplement. Does anyone know if the blood loss during surgery will affect his iron stores that much? If I increase MY iron, will that help boost his levels of iron? Thanks for any info you might have

Added: I just read that increasing my iron intake will NOT affect the amount of iron DS gets through breastmilk... oh well.

Lindsay, hanging out with my boys - Big Brother B (5/09) and Little P (4/12). Twin girls expected 1/16!
