Trimming flip organics.

Just wondering if anybody has tried trimming a flip organic insert so that it would fit smaller babies better.

I like flips better than prefolds for trifolding - they actually stay folded. But I don't think they fit well until lo is ready for a medium size cover. So I thought about cutting one section off and serging it to make it fit into a small cover.

Think it would work or am I crazy?

I think its a great idea if you have a serger!! I cut up 3 of mine (one side off) and used the one side off as a doubler with pockets and the other part as a regular insert. I don't have a serger so they don't look super pretty but I bet yours would!

I just got the flip trainers inserts (which are the same as the organic prefolds just in 6 layer insert format). They are super soft & long so you can adjust them as needed!

Ooh I hadn't thought about the trainer inserts. I'll have to look in to them. Don't they have aplix on them? Do they have the loop or hook side?

The trainer inserts have the suedecloth-type laundry tabs. I have used mine on my newb and they fit great! My only issue is the inner layers don't seem to be sewn in on the sides and bunch horribly inside. Drives me nuts, but my kiddos don't seem to notice.

Re: Trimming flip organics.

I've used the Flip inserts from the trainers too. They have really soft, low pile loop aplix to hold them into the trainers, but it doesn't really catch on anything else. They're pretty narrow and floppy, which makes them easy to fold to fit a little one.

The trainer inserts at $6 each aren't bad but I think I could pick up some used flips cheaper or seconds. I just want white serger thread, I only have black and blue. =P

Re: Trimming flip organics.

I was just thinking it would be more cost effective to buy the org flips than the trainers--seems like you could make more with the non-trainer flips.
