Re: Need help choosing milk

Just did a little looking at places near me that sell raw milk and apparentlly it's a state law that it's sold for pet consumption only. Is that common? I'm sure people drink it themselves anyway.

I think it is quite common unfortunately. I was just notified that my herd share is being stopped to due legal issues with being sold for human consumption not pets. Good luck

Yep, here in NC it is sold as "pet milk" My farmer makes it clear that it is "pet milk" intended for your baby cows, goats, sheep, dogs etc... and that he takes all the necessary precautions that it is clean enough for his family to drink with a *wink* *wink*
So, everyone knows that the intended purpose is human consumption, however we pretend not to for the farmer's legal protection.
Is that ethical? I guess not. But we do what we feel is healthiest for our family regardless of what the government says is "healthy".

Its fairly easy to make your own from nuts seeds coconut or oatmeal:

DIY nutmilk:

I usually use a combo of hazelnuts and sunflower seeds, ds likes to eat the leftover pulp with a bit of vanilla mixed in.

Oat milk:

Probably the cheapest. When I lived in the woods we would just soak thick cut oats in a big jar overnight and pour the milk off the top, without blending or straining or anything.
I do like most diy milk with a pinch of salt and a dash of vanilla and a bit of honey or dates or other sweetness.
Great info! I'm tempted to try the oat milk!

Also, I personally love the taste of vanilla almond milk, esp the Blue Diamond brand. That stuff is so delicious. SO - I don't buy it very often because I just want to drink the entire carton!

Re: Need help choosing milk

DH wasn't really on board with the raw milk

We actually found some non-homogenized, grass fed organic whole milk at our local Whole Foods today. I did some reading on Food Renegade and this was one suggestion.
It came in a quart sized glass (bonus!) bottle. Any idea what the shelf life on this might be? We have always had 1/2 gallon cartons.
