Re: Ammonia. *Updated. Please Help!*
Hope that gets rid of the stink once and for all. I had some really stinky dishcloths from the kitchen sitting in the bottom of the hamper for I-don't-know-how-long, and a hot wash with Tide and a scoop of oxygen bleach did the trick. I hope Tide & bleach works for you too!
For my normal wash, I do a hot wash cycle (includes one or two cold rinses) with Sunlight Sensitive. I have been really pleased with my detergent, and I'm sensitive to scented detergents (if I touch them I get a headache, or if I smell them on the clothes too much). I hope you find a routine that works for you and isn't so long every day.

Re: Ammonia. *Updated. Please Help!*
I would do this:
1 short cold wash with detergent and little bleach 1 long hot cycle with detergent 1 short warm cycle with nothing Should work! Maybe try using a little extra detergent. I personally like powder detergents over liquids. They clean and rinse better.

Re: Ammonia. *Updated. Please Help!*
I am just curious - why do you recommend a cold wash first? what is the reason for cold first? Just for stains or?

Re: Ammonia. *Updated. Please Help!*
I always do a warm first wash w/ a tiny bit of detergent and never have stains. I use the detergent b/c I have super hard water but if your water isn' that hard you don't need it. The purpose of a cold wash is so stains don't set in but often after sitting in a diaper pail for days diapers need warm water to release all the bodily fluids that have been allowed to sit in the diaper. I would only recommend a cold first wash if you rinse each diaper before putting it in the pail otherwise I suggest a warm 1st wash. I've always done this and have never had to bleach my diapers to disinfect. If your wash routine is good you should not have to use bleach IMO.

Re: Ammonia. *Updated. Please Help!*
Okay, I did some reading, and it looks like it IS a multi-national brand, but it was started in England. And it looks like you do have the dish soap in the US, but not the laundry detergent. Still, very interesting!
