BFing 3 year old on Time cover

Just curious, what kind of picture of a mom nursing a toddler do you think wouldn't get comments of disgust?

It is my opinion that any picture of any mom breastfeeding a toddler would incite uproar and negativity. And of course the magazine wanted to get attention from the cover picture! That is the purpose of selling magazines! I'm not offended in the least by this picture.

I, personally, loved the picture. I loved how the mom looked fashionably dressed while casual. She is the quintessential "mom next door". I love that she is smiling a sort of "mona lisa smile" that sends the message that she is happy, comfortable in her skin and confident as a mother and daring those who would make snide comments to question her. I love that she looks main-stream, young, beautiful and she is choosing to breastfeed her toddler! I love that the child is dressed like a normal kid his age and his size conveys a sense of health and well-being, which are the benefits of breastfeeding (among so many others). He is the picture of the typical toddler in your child's preschool class.

My DH said it came up at work yesterday, too. A couple of the ladies were making negative comments about it and DH spoke up and said "My wife is currently breastfeeding our almost 17 month old and I am so glad because it is so healthy for our child. Our Pediatrician always tells her how great it is that she has kept breastfeeding and how he wishes more moms would do the same. Our child is almost never sick and has never had a single ear infection or fever above 101. The WHO encourages breastfeeding for at least 2 years and more if mutually desired by mom and baby. I'm sure my wife will keep breastfeeding as long as our son wants to. It is a sacrifice she makes for him and I am so grateful to her because I know he gets so much benefit from it. I am so proud of her!" They were all surprised and even impressed and the tone changed from negative to positive. It was really neat!
