Re: Not feelin' it with the midwife or my birth plan...HELP!
I haven't read the responses, but if it was me I would be looking into a hotel room to have a UC. I personally could not birth in a hospital unless there was a medical need. I was at a free standing birth center for my last one and that was bad enough. She does NOT sound like she's going to support you in the way that you need, and that will just lead to lots of unnecessary interventions.

Re: Not feelin' it with the midwife or my birth plan...HELP!
Update:
I met with her yesterday (she is a CNM) and we spoke for quite some time about my fears and I was very upfront with her. I feel that we definitely "get" eachother and she really is understanding what I want. She is all for delayed cord clamping, skin-to-skin, breastfeeding, no bath for baby right away, no vitK or eye ointment, etc... My biggest thing I guess with her was, "Are you going to be telling me how to do this and making me do things that I don't want to do while I'm in labor and can you stand back and let me do this without stepping in and taking over?" I'm not a control freak or anything, but so many dr's/nurses/midwives that I've met seem to be and maybe it's more so that many birthing moms *don't* want to take control of their birth and they *do* want their birth to be "managed", but not me, and I made that clear to her and she promised me it won't be like that at all. I felt good about our conversation and am going forward with the hospital birth. I even plan to go in as soon as I go into labor so I can get the antibiotics in my system. I agreed to be monitored when I first arrive (externally of course) but no internal checks. I almost feel like a weirdo saying I will do all these things because in the past I've been so opposed to them and now I'm like a totally different person! I will bring copies of my birth plan, but my biggest advocate is my husband who (thank GOD!) is very outspoken and will NOT let anyone do anything to me that we don't want done. There is no birth center close enough, and the home birth midwives don't take my insurance and I cannot afford to pay out of pocket. Plus, for some reason I cannot see myself having this baby at home, even if attended by a midwife. I've had visions of having him at a hospital since finding out I was pregnant, so I'm just going to go with it and hope for the best!

I'm hoping for a good, safe birth for you and baby! Just remember that even if SHE agrees she is still bound by hospital policies.

Re: Not feelin' it with the midwife or my birth plan...HELP!
Thanks mama! And you are right, I must remember that the hospital has its policies, but I suppose they can't really make me do anything, but they can give me a hard time about it if they want. I've read mixed reviews on this hospital, but the nurse who gave us a tour of it was all for natural birth and was super nice. I hope I'm not being delusional in my thinking a hospital birth is right for me, lol!
