Re: Parents of giant babies, please commiserate with me..
Wow, same here.. my DS was 9lbs 10oz at birth and at 14 months he's about 20 lbs.. everyone comments on what a little peanut he is... and then I tell them he was that big at birth and they are surprised.

I hear ya! My 5 month old weighs 20 pounds! She is huge. She was 8.14 at birth. She just was never small. she now wears 12 month clothes. We skipped 3-6 and 6-9.
All of my other babies were pretty big too.

Dd2 was a big baby(10lb 6oz), 20 lbs by 4mos so I never got the 'little' stage with her lol. She slowed down at age 3 though.

Been there, done that!
My 8#14oz baby boy was 16 pounds at 2 months. Now he's 2 years old and looks like a 3 year old... tall, but in no way chubby.

Re: Parents of giant babies, please commiserate with me..
My first 2 children were born bigger at 8 11 and 10 8. My sisters first 2 were 10 3 and 10 15. My youngest was born at 7 7 soo tiny by our nb standards. He wound up gaining 14-16 oz a week for the first 3 months. He is now our biggest baby for age.
At 4 months we had him in green edge GMD prefolds for the width. Last edited by qsefthuko; 05-15-2012 at 02:14 PM. |

I love reading about others' big babies
DD was 7 lbs at birth, 15 lbs at 2 months, 25 lbs at 6 months, now 35 lbs at 12 months. I did feel a bit sad about only having a tiny baby for a week or so, but was glad I never had to worry about whether she was getting enough milk!

Re: Parents of giant babies, please commiserate with me..
My son was the same way. He wasn't a big newborn (7 lbs 8 oz at birth) but he grew rapidly and was always at least one size ahead, usually more. I remember his first Christmas, he was 5 months old and already outgrowing some of his 9 month clothes. He got some 12+ month stuff that fit him!
Then he just sort of stopped, and slimmed down once he got more mobile. He's almost 2 and hasn't changed clothing sizes much in the last year! He's wearing some stuff that he wore last spring (like two piece pajama sets, certain shirts, etc.). He gets taller but he's not big like he used to be. Healthy looking but not a tank anymore. But yeah, I was always so sad because from about 2 or 3 months through the first year he outgrew everything like crazy. I felt like I was always packing away outgrown clothes. I'm hoping this next baby is a bit more average! haha

Re: Parents of giant babies, please commiserate with me..
I have a chunker too. He was 9 lbs 9 oz at birth. At his 9 month check up (a month ago) he was 23 lbs and 29" tall. He actually slowed down on the weight gain when he was around 5 months, so he isn't packing it on as fast but he hasn't slimmed down yet either.
He's been wearing 18 month clothes for about 2 months, but if he wears a onesie or a sleeper he has to wear 24 month because his torso is really long. My baby has looked more like a toddler for quite some time now, but I sure do love all the rolls
