I cut up an old Swaddlebees Pail Liner...
....and got 5 newborn diapers!!! 1 hook n loop cover, 1 h&l with gussets, 2 snap with cord snap down, and 1 envelope style pocket!!!! I have literally 1.5" of FOE leftover, I was nervous I'd run out!
They were all made with the DDU Newborn pattern (7.5-15ish lbs I believe). Here are all the diapers: ![]() Top Row LtoR: Pocket, H&L Cover with Gussets Bottom Row LtoR: Snap Covers, H&L Cover The hook and loop covers were my first two, and man, I'll never do gussets again! They were a major PITB! They're not perfectly centered so I'm not sure how functional they'll end up being but it was a neat thing to try. Here are the insides of these two covers, stuffed with a prefold a little smaller than a yellow edge GMD. ![]() ![]() A side shot of the gusset with the prefold inside: ![]() The next two are the same covers without gussets and with snaps. I did two rows of snaps with 1 with snap on each side. I also did a cord snap down on each but I don't like it too much. The insides look exactly the same with hidden snaps. ![]() The last is a pocket diaper. Same PUL outer with lime green microfleece inner. I used an envelope style pocket which was soo easy and I really like this style. This is my first pocket with FOE binding so I hope it holds up as well as Thirsties do since they bind like this. In this picture the pocket is stuffed with what I think is a size large Thirsties Hemp Insert. I also kept the two rows of snaps but put 2 snaps per wing, bumGenius Style. Oh and this has grasshopper KamSnaps. ![]() I can't wait to see how these fit and work!

looks great!
See I am with you, I hate making gussets but I really love gusset covers, especially for the newborn stage. Of course I also have sewing with FOE

I would love a serger too. I don't topstich, only on the elastic casing. The elastic I just tack at both ends on the inside of the legs as I hate seeing stretched elastic too, I know it should have no effect but in my mind I still think it hampers the elastic some.

Re: I cut up an old Swaddlebees Pail Liner...
clever clever!
my old SB pail liners are completely shot after being used for 4 years so I am cutting them up to use as a pattern to make new ones myself out of PUL I got, much cheaper than buying new ones!

That is awsome. Wishing I had seen this before I sold my pail liners I never used.
