I responded to an ISO post and listed all the diapers I was considering selling. It comes to somewhere in the $200-$300 range. The potential buyer asked how much for the whole lot. I'm inclined to reduce prices and sell all at once just to save the hassle of multiple sales.
But - I am worried. This is a person who is new to DS and has little feedback. What would you do to protect yourself if selling a large $ amount? I am probably a bit hesitant because I lost $50 worth of diapers, even though I insured them when I sent them to a DS mama to repair them. She reported never getting the diapers, I contacted the USPS and their records indicated it was delivered so they denied my claim and basically said I was out of luck. The mama was sorry but would not split the loss with me or send other diapers to replace the once that were lost. Maybe I should have pushed it further with her but I felt like I had no recourse because it was not a purchase through paypal or anything, just me sending the diapers for repair. The crappy part was she had already repaired them once, but the elastic was not sewn to the shell so I asked her to fix them. What would you do?

Re: Considering a large $ amount sale - what to consider
I get kinda nervous when selling to someone with little feedback or posts even. I have sold to someone who have very few posts, but it was a smaller dollar amount, maybe $12. I'm not so sure if I would sell such a large amount with someone super new.
You could ask about feedback elsewhere, although I do wonder when somebody says they have ebay feedback and link it - how do you know it's really them and not just a link to someone else? Having said that I see both sides as I used to only buy from DS and not post when I first discovered it. I know many people don't post and just buy too. I do think you would be covered with paypal though if it did go bad.....

Make sure the buyer is verified on Paypal, meaning the address is confirmed and the bank account is valid and linked. Purchase delivery confirmation and insurance. Take a picture of the contents before and after closing it up and taping, make sure a picture or video of the label is taken. That's about as safe as it gets!

Re: Considering a large $ amount sale - what to consider
I won't speak to the second part of your post - I'm sure you'll get a flood of outraged responses concerning that.
For selling, I think you are covered as long as - you get DC and insure the package - you take AMPLE pics, detailed ones, so that the other mama can't make fraudulent "not as described" claims - just in general make sure you get a good vibe from the new mama, from your PM communications and from reading up on her forum posts Good luck!! ETA: seems I basically parroted everything the PPs wrote.. but in my defense their posts weren't there at the time I started writing! :-)

Re: Considering a large $ amount sale - what to consider
I would send them through fed ex or some other shipping company that requires a signature. That way they are continually tracked and the person on the other end cant claim they didn't get them. And I'd still insure them. It's a little more money but a lot of peace of mind.

Re: Considering a large $ amount sale - what to consider
usps also has delivery confirmation with signature required. I would take the pics, check out their paypal as the previous posters suggested. Then I would check to see which would be cheaper. Usps, fedex, or ups making sure your quotes include insurance, delivery confirmationa, and signature at delivery.
I think this should be done on any large order regardless of how long they have been on ds or how good the feedback is. Last edited by qsefthuko; 05-19-2012 at 08:51 PM. |

Just make sure they are verified, address is confirmed, put DC, insurance AND signature confirmation.
Take lots of pictures of everything as well so they can't come back stating not as described.

Re: Considering a large $ amount sale - what to consider
Yes to the detailed pics!!
The only person who ever scammed me do it by claiming I sent her something full of holes. They were NEW. She flat lied. So take those pictures. And one of my earliest purchases here was a huge lot for over $100, and I'm glad the seller was willing to do it
