Would you be offended ?
Last week for mothers day my whole family including my in laws went to church for the babies dedication an then out for lunch. My son is 7 mo so this was my first mothers day. At lunch my son was fussy ( it was nap time and he normally nurses down for a nap ) and hungry so I nursed him at the table, discreetly with no cover. This week we went over to their house to go in the pool and my MIL bought me a nursing cover and gave it to me. I was kind of offended. I said thanks and that I already have one and I don't ever use it. She said she got it free or something so just to keep it "just in case ".
My husband doesn't think she was trying to be offensive and that she probably saw it and thought it was cool. Anyway. Am I totally wrong here ?? Lindsey - RN wishing to be a SAHM. mom to the cutest DS born 10/3/11. |

Re: Would you be offended ?
I guess it would depend on the relationship you have with your mother in law. I know if mine did that she would have just been trying to be nice or helpful and probably thought it would be something I'd like. (I don't use them either). I think either way its not worth getting into, I'd just thank her and either stick it in a closet or give it to a friend or something.

I would be grateful, not offended.

Re: Would you be offended ?
Really does depend on your MIL. If my MIL did that it would NOT have been a generous kind gesture. Either way try not to let it bother you too much. You know you are doing the best possible thing for your LO and if they are uncomfortable then they should not look.

I wouldn't be offended. She may have gotten it thinking you had forgotten yours and wanted you to have a back up. Not worth getting into it, IMO.

Re: Would you be offended ?
I would see the gift of a nursing cover as showing support for your breastfeeding relationship . . . I wouldn't be offended.

Re: Would you be offended ?
Hopefully she thought that you just did not have one and was trying to be nice by getting you one. And if not, well at least she did not make a big deal out of it verbally!!!

Re: Would you be offended ?
I wouldn't be offended. She probably thought it was something that you'd find handy, thinking, "Lindsey had to nurse at the table on Mother's Day. Wouldn't something like this be useful??" That's how my mom would be.
