Re: Cloth Diaper in the Hospital

If you are concerned with staining, you can cut out some scrap fleece or velour to lay in the diapers for the first few poops.

I haven't had any staining problems with it though.

I make a lot of milk so meconium usually passes in my babies in the first 24 hours. We'll probably use the few disposables we already have (left over form other babies and gifts) for the first day or so and then switch to cloth. We'll be having a homebirth so no free dipes for us.

Re: Cloth Diaper in the Hospital

Since I am going to try for a vba2c, I am just going to concentrate on that, then the diapers :-) So I plan to use sposies in the hospital, and I will try cloth at home when I feel ready for it. But I'm sure as soon as I get home I'll have to try them all on at least to see how cute they are and how they fit :-)

Re: Cloth Diaper in the Hospital

crashing
I had my baby a few weeks ago and brought cloth to the hospital-nb nana's and xs bg aio's. We used cloth from diaper 1 and never had issues with staining or theft. I brought a large hanging wet bag and threw them in there when dirty. I stayed for 1 day and when we got home I just threw them in the diaper pail along with my dd's diapers. They got washed the next day.

IMO and from experience ebf poo stains far worse than meconium.

Re: Cloth Diaper in the Hospital

We're planning a home birth and will use cloth from day 1. I keep hearing from experienced mama's that meconium really doesn't stain.

I'm planning on cloth at the hospital, but I just told my husband that and he really "poo-pooed" it, lol. I think I will bring it anyway, and decide there.

Im going to just use disposables that they give me in the hospital, and Ive bought 3 jumbo packs of Huggies that I have bought...all NB size. This is baby #8 for us, so as much as I love cloth, I can wait. I wanna do what is easy initially till we get in our groove. I would not do cloth in the hospital, I dont want the hassel of storing them when the baby poops and all that, and then what if they get accidently lost...

But If it was my first or second baby, and I didnt have so much going on, I would probably do cloth from the beginning.

Re: Cloth Diaper in the Hospital

I'm just waiting until we get home from the hospital, which will be the next day if all goes as planned. Unless hubby wants to stay ontop if it, I haven't really talked to him about it yet...I think I'll just leave it up to him. I know I'll be too tired to pay attention/care. I'm taping diaper laundry instructions to the washer and sticking with prefolds, covers, and AIOs for the NB stage because he never ever folds clothes so I know he's not going to stuff diapers!

I'm guessing he will probably be in his first CD on the ride home. Everything I've read says meconium is no biggie, but I have never CD'd a NB.

Re: Cloth Diaper in the Hospital

I did it Our hospital used preemie prefolds as baby cloths and they said I could use them for diapers - easy as can be (they even washed them). Meconium wasn't an issue. I always brought a few super cute ones for pictures. I switched back and forth with the hospital provided nb dipes too though.
