S/o fall winter woolies: what are you making your big kids?
My girls are long out of dipes (6 and 4) so I'm starting to plan their fall sweater stashes. Anyone else planning for their bigger kids?

LOVE knitting for my big kids.
Various hats and gloves, of course, but they'll be decided once we get their winter coats so they can match. ![]() I always do plenty of cardigans to make the summer wardrobes go a bit further. My go-to cardigan patterns are the Something Beautiful Shrug from Dakine Knits, the Aaryn Shrug from Julie K, and my ORIGINAL Schlüttli (created summer 2010). I'm always looking for new designs from high-quality, ethical writers, so when I saw THIS one from Carina Spencer, I knew I had to knit at least one for DS for the fall and winter it is TOTALLY his style. Each of my kiddos will also have at least one each of my new design, but no pics or links yet- need to wait until it's published and trademarked before I release those so there's no doubt who the copycat writers are.

Probably just hats and mittens. I make sweaters, and they never wear them. This may finally get some use though, I put a zipper on it and it's a little big on my oldest right now:
It's a malcolm with a hood:

Not sure yet. Ds1 is turning 5 soon but he is small (still wears some 3T tops and is still in all his 4T) so not to terribly long to make him things. I know I want to make him a few vests for church (want to get some madtosh for that probably), his hoodie from last yr still fits with room to grow, his hats all still fit and I have a hudson hat that I didn't quite get finished so he will have that as well. I need to make him some mittens and some fingerless gloves. He already picked out yarn for a scarf. I want to make him at least 2 cardigans and a pull over sweater. I am thinking a schlüttli and not sure what else. I need to finish his tie and maybe make him another since he loves it so much. I would love to try making him socks (would use worsted weight, making them thicker for around the house) but we will see how much I get done!

Re: S/o fall winter woolies: what are you making your big kids?
I made DS a sweater and cardigan last year and he never wore the cardigan and only wore the sweater for a week then never again....so most likely just hats/mitts and socks
. I do plan on spinning and using these for his mitts/hats:mm mint mocha, mm dragons lair, mm swimsea, mm barn owl, dbk edward, dbk sbe, sb/gs koto w/o pink hat/mitts w/ mm dragons lair ![]() And if I knit a sweater it will be one of these: sweater w/ madtosh ink sweater w/ mm barn owl Last edited by mythik; 05-22-2012 at 10:19 AM. |

I am lucky with him but with dd not so much. She is in the 80th and 90th percentiles for height and weight and always has been. Knitting for her takes a while. Luckily ds2 has short little legs (they all do) so at 19 months his inseam is only 10ish. Ds1 at 3 1/2 only had a 12 inch inseam and that was laying on the top of his foot.

I really need more semi solids, I'm having a hard time narrowing down what's in my queue.. I only have 286 patterns in there
