Re: Gahh!! This is why so many cloth newbies have laundry issues!

These Tide discussions have opened my eyes, lol I have one question: I will CD our first baby to be born in late July and have already bought the diapers, as well as RNG detergent. I do wanna get some Tide too. Should I use all of the RNG first and then switch to Tide, or is it OK to "alternate" between those 2...Do maybe a few loads with RNG and then one or two with Tide etc?

I don't think alternating would cause an issue. It shouldn't hurt anything if that's what you're wondering!

And RnG works for other cleaning, too. They area always sending ideas via email. But definitely you should be able to alternate detergents!

Ive seen this too and Ive actually commented saying they were way over complicating things. Its really annoying when they argue with you. One had mentioned that you need to throw wet towels in your HE washer along with your diapers and that you should add water with a hose. I was just shaking my head..

Yep! Someone mentioned that in this discussion too. I feel so much sympathy for the mamas because they think detergents like RnG are their only option. I used to think the same way. My DD's rash was constant (and that's why I'd given up using cloth on DS2). I probably would have given up eith DD by now too if I hadn't found DS and learned that regular detergents wouldn't cause my diapers to disintegrate on contact.

So a big THANK YOU to all of you mamas who answer detergent questions for the umpteenth time and assure the fearful newbies (me when I joined) that they can do it.

RNG isn't bad, either, but you don't want to use only a tbsp of detergent, you know?

I can't use Tide

I tried once and poor DS broke out into horrible eczema because of the scents in Tide. It's too bad, I was hoping to save money on the detergent.

I had this happen a few years ago & thought I couldn't use Tide, but it turns out I really needed a good hot rinse (not a cold). The only way for me to do this is to do a hot wash. It works! Try a hot wash afterwards in place of a rinse! Or try F&G, but I feel like the original Tide works better.

I can't do any fragranced detergents on DD's diapers (or DP's delicates) b/c of rash & itching issues. For us, it really is about the fragrance. But I've had good luck w/ ALL F&C & the Sears brand fragrance free detergent. We use the HE formulations for both b/c of the FLer, but it's nice to be able to use one detergent for all the clothes, all the diapers, all the household laundry, & not even think about it...and I don't have to go out of my way to get it & it doesn't cost a million dollars.
