Reflux
My LO has reflux and the doctor has her on rice cereal and Zantac she is 5 months old. I am wondering if anyone else's has had reflux and when they were able to stop taking meds? Thanks!

Re: Reflux
We are dealing with reflux. I found she does best on Nutramigen or Alimentum (we're using nutramigen). The silent part of it is not nearly as bad as it was before. Before we were using gentlease and we tried similac sensitive too, but she was not doing well on those. I also have to hold her up for 30 minutes after each feed to prevent a massive spit up.

Re: Reflux
We stopped meds at 7 months...he was on Prevacid and Carafate. We tried gentlease, similac sensitive, and then alimentum. We had good success with alimentum, so we then did bloodwork and determined he had a milk allergy too. We then switched to 50/50 Up & Up Soy and Gerber Soy...perfect combination!

Re: Reflux
My 8 month old is still on meds, but we have been able to reduce his dose in the last month. He was on Zantac for a month and we had to up his doseage weekly. Once he was up to the maximum and it wan't working, we switched to Prevacid. It has been a blessing. We tried to wean him off completely but he's not quite ready yet. He is down to 1/2 a solutab daily though, instead of a full one.

Re: Reflux
Two of my four had pretty bad reflux. Dd1 was my worst and hers was silent. She was on Prilosec suspension and carafate and was able to go off meds right about 12 mos. Ds2 had more spitting up and "obvious" reflux. He came off meds at 7 mos. He also was on Alimentum and I believe that helped his not to be as bad. Both had painful feedings and feeding refusal.

Re: Reflux
Two of mine were off meds at 8 months and my current LO just stopped his at 6.5 months. It really depends on the severity of the reflux and when it finally eases up. Every LO is different and you just have to kind of play it by ear.

Re: Reflux
Every LO is different, but it often gets better around the time they start sitting up on their own. It's the same muscles providing the stability, I think.
My little guy is still on Prevacid at 23 months. He has other feeding issues, and a barium swallow study we did for those confirmed that he's still got reflux too.

It's all genetics
My son (12 years old) has had 2 surgeries for it and is still on Prevacid 3 times a day. My daughter 23 months) is on Prevacid twice a day. My hubby's family has horrible stomach issues so I am not holding my breath my daughter will outgrow it. I know my son never will.
