How late is too late to plant a garden?

I know it is getting late, but things have been tight, so I haven't been able to get dirt and seeds before now. If I plant my garden within the next week will it be OK or is it too late? I live in Ohio. Thanks!

I live much further south than you and it's definitely too late to start here. My plants are already pretty big and established. I'm not sure about Ohio, though. When was your last frost?

I am in Indiana, and I am still planting. Most people around here start planting their summer garden around mother's day. That's only 2 weeks ago. I say go for it!

We're in MI and were still planting too. We do have the bulk already planted and coming up, but there is still time. We had to replant just about everything last year in June because the deer ate everything.

You guys are so lucky! I'm in Alberta and all my plants are still on my kitchen counter! lol Should be able to get them out this coming weekend. It's been warm during the days but still dipping very close to freezing overnight.

My strawberries have poked through and look great though! :-)

Right now is your last shot, the latest I would get things in the ground. Cross check maturity dates with your first frost date, some things like 120 day varieties may be too late and some early spring crops like broccoli and such you should skip now.

I'm in the southwest so this is my last week for spring setting. Late july/early august begins fall planting.

I am in Indianapolis and I am planting this weekend. However, the only thing I am seeding directly into the ground is corn. My toms, cukes, zukes, and peppers were started in seed cups a few weeks ago.

I will be planting tomorrow with my boys. We just finished amending our garden space to a raised bed, so I am slow out of the gate. I am in PA, our season will run long enough to accommodate running two weeks late.

Re: How late is too late to plant a garden?

I am in northern California and last year we started our garden the end of June and beginning of July and everyone said it was too late.....we ate and canned and had plenty to freeze (still have some in the freezer lol ) zucchini , tomatoes, green beans , bell peppers, hot peppers , cucumbers eggplants etc. So I say go for it
