Mask of pregnancy through breastfeeding?
I'm wondering if the hormones associated with breastfeeding are causing my "pregnancy mask" to linger :/ of course, it is concentrated mostly on my upper lip and giving me a pretty awesome mustache. I could deal when I was pregnant, as I assumed it would disappear once baby arrived--but such is not the case.
Anyone else dealing with this? Will it go away once we wean? I'm also taking Domperidone, which probably doesn't help....ugh! I know I should just go to the doctor and see if there is anything I can do topically, but just wondering if I'm the only one! |

Re: Mask of pregnancy through breastfeeding?
I believe Clinique makes a product for this situation.
Just an FYI, my linea nigra (the line going down some pregnant women's bellies) stayed VERY visible from the time i was 5 months with DD1 until DD2 was about 9 months old (43 months total). Despite the same nursing habits, it was completely gone at 9 months pp with DD2, and is now just starting to show with pregnancy #3 at 30 weeks. For the record, I've been nursing for over 4 years straight, so it isn't breastfeeding that is keeping the coloration. Any amount of tanning or exposure to sunlight without sun screen WILL make it worse. Essentially, what is going on is that may layers of your skin discolored, and all of them need to make it to the surface to completely dissipate the color. Mild, gentle exfoliation will help.

Thanks for your response!
I looked around on the internet and am going to try and get a hold of a product called Esoterica. Apparently the condition can be caused by hormones, but stick around long after levels have dropped back down. And I work outside, so am really challenged! Ugh. |

Re: Mask of pregnancy through breastfeeding?
Homeopathic Sepia can help if the rest of the remedy picture fits your current disposition.

Re: Mask of pregnancy through breastfeeding?
I've read that pregnancy-related pigment changes can stick around for up to a year after giving birth, but it's more common for them to fade within a few months.
