Anyone use the Swim Ways Powr Swimmer floatie?

I must own every single flotation device out there

I have a puddle jumper, which I would love to use with DS, and I bought almost 9 months ago just for that purpose...thinking he would grow a LOT faster than he did!!!! Turns out, he's just hanging on to his little 22 pound self and gaining height instead of weight so, at 23 months he still only weighs 22 pounds (yes, we do feed him. ALOT. )

Anyway, I was desperately looking for something that might fit him besides a very very tightly confining life jacket (which we do have, for when we go kayaking). I ended up getting this from Toys R Us:

We're going to the pool this afternoon for the second time this summer, but first time with this device. The last time we went to the pool, it was at my mom's condo complex over the weekend and DS was totally unhappy because he was confined to my arms and couldn't move around AT ALL, as he had no flotation and while he knows to kick and "wallow around" (ie, move his arms) in the water, he is no where near ready to swim independently. The end result was the biggest tantrum he's ever thrown because he wanted to go one direction and I couldn't because the water would have been over my head, and I can't swim AND hold him up at the same time. We ended up having to leave the pool entirely.

The pool we are going to today has a gigantic baby/toddler pool that ranges from 1 - 3 feet deep, so he should be able to run around without me holding him 100% of the time, if I can pry him off me (he's having a separation anxiety phase right now), but he still needs some support in case he falls over and I'm not within arm's reach (mostly, this is for my peace of mind).

Anyway, if you have one, have you liked it, and how did you use it to help your child learn to swim?
