TTC with irregular cycles

DH and I are thinking to start TTC #2 soon. I have been diagnosed with insulin resistance and most likely have PCOS. We tried for 9 months to get pg with DD. In the year before I got pg, I had 1 period without medication. Blood tests confirmed I was not ovulating. DD was my miracle I conceived a month after starting metformin and we caught the first egg. I hadn't had a period in 4 months when I got that positive test.

Since my first postpartum period, my cycles have been normal (for me), I've been tracking them and am averaging 52 days. I've always been closer to 6 weeks than 4.

So, is there a way to predict ovulation with such long cycles (besides POA million OPKs)? Is the standard ovulation day 14 because it's the middle of the cycle, or because it's 2 weeks after your period, or 2 weeks before your period? I'm thinking the last, that periods are usually 2 weeks after ovulating, and my cycles are long because I go longer stretches between ovulating. Does that make any sense? Mostly I guess I'm just wondering if we need to DTD EOD always, or if there's any way for me to increase our odds and estimate my fertile time. I have nothing against DTD, lol, but it was stressful TTC DD, because any time we went a few days in between I worried we would miss our chance. And I wasn't even getting the normal once a month chance. Anyway, sorry for any rambling and TIA for any advice

You ovulate about 2 weeks before you get your period, but 10-16 day luteal phase can still be "normal ". Charting and checking your cervical mucus can help you figure out when you are nearing ovulation.
