Calcium/magnesium to lower BP?
My BP is borderline, but I have a history of it going up around 30-32wks in my previous 3 pregnancies. I'm 20wks now. I've heard of taking calcium and magnesium to lower blood pressure, but I've never actually done it or even researched it.
My blood pressure seems to be more of a concern this time than it has been in the past. It hasn't dipped down much like it normally does in the 2nd trimester. So...I'm a little nervous. Anyone know about this protocol for treating it? I'd specifically like to know how much I should take. I'll start researching too, but I'd love to hear first hand experience. Thanks!

Re: Calcium/magnesium to lower BP?
I took cal/mag mostly for leg cramps. I took 2000mg a day. Dandelion is also excellent for bp issues and is safe in pregnancy. I take it every pregnancy from 30ish on.

My MW recommended hops.
Unfortunately, she said the hops couldn't come from beer! |

Re: Calcium/magnesium to lower BP?
I took cal/mag for high BP with my first and it seemed to work (along with 100 g. protein a day). I take it now to prevent high BP and to try to get the cramping I'm having under control.

Re: Calcium/magnesium to lower BP?
I took it in the last few weeks of my pregnancy for borderline BP and I do think it helped.

Re: Calcium/magnesium to lower BP?
I take 250mg of magnesium a day, but hoping it helps prevent preterm labor. I had high blood pressure at the end with dd so I hope it helps with that too.

Re: Calcium/magnesium to lower BP?
I took a liquid cal/mag with my last pregnancy and it helped. I had pre-E with my oldest and I took prescription b/p meds with my second. I feel it really helped me. I also ate high protein. I'm doing the same thing this time around as well. So far so good at 24 weeks.
