I feed my dog the Merrick foods and he loves them. He is a ten pound dog so he hardly eats anything.

kirkland (costco) our vet recommended it...the first few ingredients are real meat, plus the veggies and rice...it is very reasonably priced and made by the same manufacturer as one of the very expensive brands whose name escapes me

My husband did massive research on dog foods and ingredients and what the ingredient list actually means. Like anything that says "Fish meal or animal meal" means that it's ground up fish parts or animal parts...like your sick zoo animals that die. ICK!

Based on our location and what we have available to us on a regular basis, we chose "Professional" (http://www.professionalpetfood.com/)

When we had a shedding dog, he didn't shed that much. Our dogs have always had nice coats and been super healthy. Our little dog now, can pretty much eat any thing the toddlers throw on the floor and be fine, but our previous dog had a very sensitive stomach and could only eat foods with lamb and rice. Any brand, so long as it was lamb and rice...so we just stuck with the Professional brand. Our local pet store used to do a Buy 10 bags, get the 11th free, but they recently stopped that which is kind of a bummer.

Usually less it seems because it's not disguised with fillers.

This site should give you more brands and what to look for. I didn't know Amazon even had dog food...we have Prime too so we'll have to check it out!

Grain free actually cost us MORE and we hoped they would poop less, improve their performance, coats, ect. Nope.

We feed Stella and Chewy's (premade raw) in the AM, and grain free Fromm's Four Star Nutritionals in the PM. My dogs are small, 3.8 lbs and 8 lbs, so they don't eat much, so we can afford to buy the higher quality more expensive food.

This is an awesome site that has the star ratings for almost all the different dry dog foods.

ETA- I see someone posted the link up above, my bad. But everyone should check it out and find your food!

Natures Domain. Its grain free, inexpensive ($30.99 @ Costco for 30lbs), and our dogs chronic ear infections are now gone, his poop is so much smaller, gas is gone, and they all are eating way less!

We used to feed Pedigree. A 50lb bag was lasting us 2.5 weeks. The 30lb of Natures Domain last the same amount of time

We started our lab/shepherd mix on Solid Gold Wolf Cub for large breed dogs, but then the store we were getting it at (the only one in town that carried it) said they were discontinuing the Solid Gold line and suggested Taste of the Wild for her, since she was a couple years old. We mix 3 different varieties of the Taste of teh Wild and she loves it. Plus, she'll eat whatever Bugga tosses at her when he's eating.

I used to use Purina but have been looking around for a better food. I don't think I can realistically afford the premium foods. I am using Sam's Club generic food until I can find something better. I've heard good things about Trader Joe's food but haven't tried it yet.
