Green alternative to Swiffer wet jet??
We just had beautiful new floors installed in our house ... and I was told that I will no longer be able to use my trusted steam mop.
![]() He recommended a Swiffer wet jet to clean but I think those are icky. Are there any green alternatives that you know of? I can use the microfiber pads I guess, but I'm wondering about the spray. I guess if all else fails there's always a bucket and a mop.

I have a mop similar to the swiffer with a microfiber pad. I fill with either Bronner's/Charlie's Murphy oil/vinegar diluted with water. My floors come out nice and clean.

Re: Green alternative to Swiffer wet jet??
I love my O Cedar Flip mop--do you use that recipe on laminate floors? I was using various vinegar recipes and was getting film. Broke down and bought some Bona laminate spray because I heard it worked well, and again, got the film. So I am back to square one! But I still love the MF mop! lol

Re: Green alternative to Swiffer wet jet??
We have hardwoods throughout, even in the kitchen. The 2 full bathrooms have tiles. I found the vinegar could dull it a bit so I switch between products frequently. My house was built in the 1920's and these are the original floors. There are some dents here and there, and it's not as shiny as brand new flooring. We didn't have the floors refinished before we moved in.
Here's the livingroom after 2 years of mopping with the aforementioned products: ![]() I'm not sure what kind of mop ours is. It's red and was really affordable. We had a Shark steam mop that broke within months and I had been mopping with prefolds for a while.

Re: Green alternative to Swiffer wet jet??
I was trying to think of something to use, too, for my old wet jet. I bought it yearrrs ago and didn't want to do the disposables any more. I was just doing my whole house on my hands and knees but would much rather not! lol!
I used a microfiber insert from an old pocket diaper I had and a cleaning washcloth and sewed those together quickly to see if that would work. All I need is to get some velcro and sew that on so it fastens to the mop itself (was using tape haha). And it worked so nice! The first time I refilled the bottle with an alternate floor cleaner (natural stuff) and resealed the rubber stopper (to open it I had to put the tip in boiling water until it popped to remove). Instead of doing that the 2nd time (it was hard to RESEAL the rubber nicely because I took the whole thing off-- if you remove it by boiling water, just do it partly so it's easier to put back on)- I just sprayed my floor cleaner on and mopped that way-- so much easier.

I also have the O'Cedar one that has the refillable solution tank and microfiber cloths. I have tile floor and use diluted vinegar.

Re: Green alternative to Swiffer wet jet??
I also use a fillable mop! I LOVE it! I have been known to let my DH know that it is such a money saver and so much more healthier using one that you can wash the pad and use your own cleaning solution! I love mopping so much more! I found the swiffer was such a money waster! I found mine at my local walmart. It is red!
