PCOS--natural hormone treatments?
I started showing symptomns of PCOS when I was twenty. I gained sixty pounds the first year without any effort on my part...I did everything the same. Then I could not get pregnant. Two DDs and one MC later, I am wondering about natural things I can do to help my hormone imbalance. When they are balanced out I feel much more like myself. I have heard of progestore creams...has anyone tried them? What works for you? Thanks for any help you may be able to offer!

Re: PCOS--natural hormone treatments?
While I dont have an official diagnosis, I have all the signs plus I dont ovulate. The only thing that gets my hormones back on track is exercising and not eating a lot of sugar. Ive lost a lot of weight doing that and my cycles were normal. Once I stopped working out, i stopped having periods and was gaining weight again. I havent been able to get into an exercise routine since having my son 10 months ago my cycles are back to non exsistant and im heavier than I have been in 6 years. I know once I get back on track ill lose weight and get my cycles back.

I'm on natural progesterone right now! I'm on my 2nd cycle of it so I can't say too much about it yet. It does help induce periods. I take it on CD 14-28.

I'm told that B6 is a natural form of Progesterone and that Soy Isoflavenes (sp?) are "Nature's Clomid". I would start with the B6. Take it every day...it will boost your energy and mood too. Try cutting out sugars, and gluten if you're up for it. Since going gluten free, I've had cycles, which I never had before. I would probably only use the Soy if you were actually TTC though

The only thing that I have read to help straighten you out that is natural is Vitex/Chasteberry. I was getting desperate and was considering it. Luckily I finally got on my therapeutic dose of Metformin
. It was driving me nuts. I have heard of B6 helping support Chasteberry to. I know PCOS is a pain!

Re: PCOS--natural hormone treatments?
Get a Saliva hormone test kit from ZRT Labs http://www.zrtlab.com/test-kits/sali...ting-kits.html . You don't need a prescription for it since it's a saliva test. Very accurate. Test for Testosterone, Progesterone, all 3 forms of Estrogen, Cortisol, and DHEA. Progesterone creams are great and available without a prescription and there are natural ways to deal with the other hormones being out of balance if needed. I wouldn't recommend treating a suspected hormone imbalance without checking the basics first. Getting too much progesterone (or any other hormone) can cause just as many problems as too little.
I did the test (the first time) about 12 months before DD1 was born. My cycles were about 40 days. My progesterone levels were very low and my cortisol levels were extremely elevated. I supplemented my progesterone and made recc lifestyle/dietary changes and got pregnant about 3 months after starting, and in the first month of trying.
