From the time they broke my water with my first and heavy labor started it took, 4 1/2 hours.

With my second once my body was in distress, and labor started I say total 4 hours. I went from 0 to 10 in 1 hour delived in 30 min at the hospital was sent home the night before, at 330am had pain and bleeding, but no contraction they did not start until about 7am. DD2 was born at 858am.

With both no induction, and a ten year age difference

Re: Labor Speed - How fast was your 1st vs 2nd, 3rd etc?

#1 - random contractions for 2 days, they broke my water and he was born 3 hrs later.
#2 - 4 hrs from start to finish. My water broke when they checked my progress when I first arrived at the hospital and 45min later he was born.

Re: Labor Speed - How fast was your 1st vs 2nd, 3rd etc?

First DD my water broke around 5:30 and she was born at around 9:40. I went from 2-10 cm in one loop around the labor and delivery floor.

2nd DD contractions started around noon, picked up to every 2-3 minutes around 5:30 and she was born at about 8:30. This time they only let me walk the hallway outside my room They broke my water when I hit 9cm and she was right out.

So two very different labors, but with the 2nd once things picked up it was a bit faster.

Re: Labor Speed - How fast was your 1st vs 2nd, 3rd etc?

1st was 7 1/2 hours (3 hours of it was pushing)

2nd was 5 1/2 hours (2 pushes and he was out!)

3rd was 4 hours 19 minutes.....would have been much shorter but I refused to push for a long time because I never got that crazy I HAVE to push feeling. With my second the nurse gave me awesome advice that I didn't HAVE to push as soon as I got to 10, that I could just let my body do the work until I got that feeling that I just absolutely HAD to push. I only had to push 2 times for him (one for head and one for shoulders) instead of the 3 hours I pushed for my first SO when I got to 10 for my 3rd I decided to again let my body do the work only I NEVER got that I have to push now feeling and kept telling the nurse I wanted to wait....finally my dr came in and said we are doing this now...I should have pushed like an hour or 2 earlier but I was stubborn LOL. Again 2 pushes and she was out.

Re: Labor Speed - How fast was your 1st vs 2nd, 3rd etc?

induced with both both with epidurals

DD1- pitocin started around 6am born 1:47pm (epidural administered around 1pm-no one checked me prior, and for about 40 minutes I kept saying, "I can't breath" and they shrugged it off because my spo2 was normal, and said "it's probably just labor getting started" when the doc came in to check me I was already crowining, 2 pushes and she was out. So I think I was probably ready a to push prior (around the time I started complaining about not being able to breath, and my epidural was too strong. I couldn't feel a thing)

DD2- pitocin started around noon born 6:24pm (note at some point I refused to let them up my pitocin anymore because I was in so much pain even after the epi, it didn't take, and I just threw up through every contraction and had my husband rub my hip bones between contractions, once one strated "DON'T TOUCH!". I don't know how long I pushed for, but I know she had shoulder dystocia, and didn't come right out.

I'd love to feel a natural labor not induced, but I doubt I will this time either. 42.5 weeks with the first and no signs of labor. Only 40 weeks 4 days with my second, but no signs of labor.

(my hospital is 40 miles away this time)

I'm a bit apprehensive about my next labor! I just hope to make it to the hospital in time.

I had minimal contractions (2-5 minutes apart, but very manageable) for 2 days. Then I woke up at 8 am, water broke at 8:30, my son was born at 10:56. So 2 1/2 hours. I also have the same fears. We live 30-45 minutes away from the hospital. I hope we make it in time!! With my son, we lived 1 1/2 hours from the hospital, of course it was pouring rain, and we got there at about 10. I bet my son would have been born a lot sooner also had I been told I could push. He came out when my body was literally pushing him out on its own. Had to yell to get a doctor and nurses in the room. They were all scrambling to get supplies for me!

All natural unassisted births.

Ds1, 42w, labor started with losing my plug, from first indication of labor until he was in arms was 6 hours.

DS2, 36w, labor started with regular contractions, from first contraction until in arms was 3.5 hours.

Dd, 38w, I woke up with the knowledge that I was in labor, but no contractions, only tiny pieces of plug. From waking until in arms was 4 hours, from water breaking until in arms was 1.5 hours, from first contraction until in arms was 20 minutes.

DD1--40 weeks 2 days--Induced at 6:00 am, born at 1:20 in the afternoon.

DD2--38 weeks, 6 days--First contraction at 7:30 am at work, figured out it was progressing really fast about 8:30 am, DH got to me about 9:15, got to the hospital at 10:00, she was born at 10:45 am and that was with us actively trying to hold her off til the doc got there.
