Telling your family you're pregnant over text message...Tacky?
Each time we announce we're pregnant it's like someone is upset they were the "last to know". It's actually kind of ridiculous, to be honest, the way that it's made a deal out of, but whatever. Someone is going to be the last to know since both of our parents are divorced and that's four separate people we have to tell. So, my thoughts were that this time we would just text everyone at the same time an ultrasound picture and be like "Hey guys! We're knocked up! We wanted to text everyone at the same time so no one felt like the last to know!"
How tacky do you think this is? Just curious how it might go over with them. |

I think it would be a lot less tacky if you didn't say "knocked up." lol
I wonder if it would come off as really uh, "crabby" since people can read it in whatever tone they want. What if you each called your own parents at the same time and then quickly called the other parent and just didn't mention who was called first?

Well, I wasn't going to actually say knocked up, lol. I would say something like "We're expecting!" I didn't even realize I had typed that phrase, lol!

Re: Telling your family you're pregnant over text message...Tacky?
Personally, I would call everyone within a few minutes of each other, but I can understand why you would want to get it all done at once since they have given you are hard time in the past.
What about an email instead? Can everyone even receive photos through text? I know I can't. Although, I know most can. LOL. Anyway, if it were me, I'd prefer an email. But, that doesn't mean I think a text is tacky either. I mean, it kind of is, but they have backed you into a corner with their antics about who you tell first.

I'm sure it is fine. I wouldn't be bothered by a text like that. I would find it funny. Just expect everyone to try calling you all at the same time and having people upset that you took someone else's call first!

We called our parents but texted the rest of the family. I did it to my sisters by sending them a pic of the positive test w/ no additional comment, lol.

I think a cute pic is fine but I would make it a bit more personal if it were parents IMO.
I told my family first cuz his family is just weird but I called them all within minutes of each other. My family would never pull the "left out" thing though.

Re: Telling your family you're pregnant over text message...Tacky?
All of our family lives in the same town as us, so we usually tell our parents as close together as possible, like on the same weekend, or on a Holiday like Mother's Day or something when we know we will be seeing everyone.
Sure some people know a little before the others, but not by much. And realistically I usually tell my mom weeks before I tell anyone else lol I would call everyone the same day and not worry about who was first or last since it's essentially all at the same time. For people other than our parents, we usually just let them find out on their own (parents usually start calling people right away) or tell them as we see them. |

Crashing, but we told everyone (besides our parents) through text.

Re: Telling your family you're pregnant over text message...Tacky?
DH chose to do it this way among his siblings because they always text him. It was just easier than gathering everyone up with our schedules. I told my family in person though, but we spend more time together than DH does with his family.
ETA: Oh wait, with my oldest sister I sent her a pic of the positive pregnancy test because she was at work. Then I saw her later that day and told her in person again.
