Freezer Cooking Newbies Unite!

I want to try freezer cooking this weekend. From what I see, it takes a bit of planning. Anyone want to join me? I'm not doing once a month cooking yet, but I'd like to fill my freezer with a few meals to have for the days I don't feel like cooking.

Re: Freezer Cooking Newbies Unite!

I need to start doing freezer meals for post baby. I need to figure out my storage options since I never see those disposable metal trays here. I think That means casserolles I would have to freeze in a dish and get out and wrap which I have tried and never done without having to thaw.

But I would love to join you. I usually shop on Saturday, so I could plan and then do a bunch of cooking Sunday.

WHat are you thinking a set number of meals?

I think I'm going to go through and see what is on sale and plan meal numbers by that. I'll probably do shopping on Friday or Sunday since we get paid Friday and I work on Saturday.

ETA - I will probably aim for 6-8 for the first time.

I would be up for that. I also really like the guides where ingredients overlap, but they are also usually really meat heavy and I worry the meat costs and all ingredients would end up being 10-15 euro per meal and I do not spend that in normal meal prep.

I can play around on pinterest and post what I come up with if you want to also share your plan.

Re: Freezer Cooking Newbies Unite!

i may be up for doing this next month (i am bad with the grocery budget). lately i have taken to doubling recipes and freezing half of it, if it is something i think will keep well (lately i made: pot pie filling, chili, meat sauce, corn dog muffins).

i also prefer dishes that don't have lots of meat because 1) it's too expensive and 2) we prefer to eat less meat, and more vegetables/beans.

this blog had some helpful tips for me... http://joelens.blogspot.com/2010/05/...parations.html especially with those glad ovenware things. i think i will be buying some of them so i can make casseroles and stuff but our freezer is soooo small... i dream of deep freezers haha

Okay, right now, the plan is to shop on Monday and cook on Tuesday... as long as it works for my mom. Her whole house is air conditioned, and mine isn't, so I'm taking over her kitchen.

Usually what I do is line the pan with foil before putting the ingredients in. After freezing, it the entire caserole just pops right out! Then, when dinnertime rolls around, you just put it, foil and all, back in the original pan and cook it. It makes dinner cleanup much easier.
