Are they really safe?

What is a safe number to have during a pregnancy?

I sure hope so because they want to measure my twins every 2 weeks. I think it will be every week by the end.

The most I have ever had was 3 and I would not want more than that. I think they are in the middle of safe and not so great but I personally don't think they are necessarily unsafe

I think the issue is more that they don't know how safe or unsafe or what the threshold of *safe* is.

3 with #2
4 with #3

Normal around here is a dating ultrasound and a 20 week ultrasound, with my extras it was because they either could not get all of the measurements they needed at the 20 week (baby was sleeping and wouldn't move) or I was suddenly measuring way off. They also like to sort of monitor the size of the baby since I had a very difficult time delivering my not that big 8lb 1oz baby. To avoid rebreaking my tailbone or a c-section, it's nice to be able to guess how big my babies might be near the end as well.

I had about 70 with my last pregnancy. :/ Two a week until 28 weeks, 3 a week after that. With a few extra thrown in. I'm not saying they are perfectly safe, but sometimes they are the safest route if there are possible complications.

I won't get any routinely. if there are complications/issues that come up where an ultrasound is necessary, I would do it, but only if ready medically indicated. the payoff just isn't worth the potential risk imo. the history of ob care is full of things they did routinely for years until they found out it was bad. ie xays on pg women to predict cpd.

I've had 7 so far at 30weeks and am guaranteed at least 6 more if I can make it to 36weeks, if I go longer than that they will probably bump me up to 2 u/s a week for the remainder of my pregnancy. Most people don't have this many but when you start developing complications in the pregnancy it sure is reassuring. Most of my friends have only had 2-3 the whole pregnancy unless they paid for an extra one.

Yes, me too. In 3 pregnancies I have had countless ultrasounds with each. Granted, I have high risk pregnancies but I have totally normal children, even with the ultrasounds. Study after study have shown they are perfectly safe and a great tool in assessing the well being of the baby.

I don't think they are safe. I don't even like doppler (which is higher frequency from what I understand). that being said, there is a risk/benefits issue that I take very seriously. At the end of my pregnancy (37-38 wks) my BP (due to kidney disease) was so high that the OB was worried about me stroking out, IGUR, stillbirth, etc....so I agreed to an u/s and a few days later to a BPP one. But I have had pregnancies with no doppler or u/s and that is what I prefer.
